Last month I was treated to an amazing evening at Silwood Kitchen – an Italian Cooking Class with Le Creuset and House & Leisure magazine. We arrived to glasses of bubbly and a short intro by the Food editor of House & Leisure – Raphaella. Then we put on our chef’s hats and aprons and headed inside to get our chef on!
We were placed in teams and each assigned a chef for the evening who guided us in preparing our 3 dishes. Our team was tasked with making a tasty mushroom risotto, a lentil and aubergine salad and an avocado, rocket and toasted seed salad. Then they handed over the ingredients and knives and let us get on with it… well almost, the chefs did give some guidance but it was definitely a “hands-on” experience. One team even made the pasta – impressive and soooo yummy!
There was much talking and laughing and a lovely atmosphere and this was before the food and wine were laid out…. and when it was we had an absolute feast by candlelight! I’m still dreaming about the amazing Veal with white wine & rosemary on home-made pasta. It was heavenly! The other dishes included Italian style fish, a Greek Panzanella and an Italina bean salad, Foccacia bread and another favourite of mine – Gnocchi. Following this we tried out the delicious desserts – Pear & Almond Tart, Espresso & Hazelnut Ice cream and another all time favourite of mine – Tiramisu. (Please excuse the lack of photo’s of this part of the evening – by this stage I was all about the eating instead of the photographing!)
It was certainly a foodie fantasy and for a reluctant chef like myself to come home feeling inspired you know you’ve done a good job. To top off an already great event we also ended up walking away with the most amazing Le Creuset gift bag ever and the amazing recipes as well as a copy of the latest House & Leisure. A wonderful way to spend a Wednesday evening – let’s hope I get to experience something like this again, and SOON!

Thanks to Le Creuset, House & Leisure and the chefs at Silwood Kitchen led by Gary for an amazing evening!

I was delighted to read this. I also have an Italian cooking school in Pretoria and this looks wonderful. Please do let me know if there are any more of these on offer.
Also if you’d like to try out my school please do let me know.
