What I… Monique from Oh Darling Bride

Today I am interviewing Monique from wonderful wedding blog – Oh Darling Bride – which she started while planning her own wedding. Oh Darling Bride is a go-to blog for down-to-earth South African brides. The blog has grown to include beautiful real weddings, advice, DIY projects and ideas to inspire brides-to-be who want a beautiful wedding, even on a budget. Monique also writes a personal blog, Oh Just a Mo and writes green tips for All4Women.

What I…

Cape Town is an awesome city and I feel blessed to live here! Always trust your instincts (I’ve only gotten myself in a pickle when I’ve ignored my gut feeling). I’m more of a picnic-and-a-walk-in-the-park kind of girl than a clubbing-chick (although I have been known to get down on the dance floor). We all have a responsibility to preserve the environment. Prayer is powerful. There’s no substitute for butter. Ever.

My Mr, family, God, blogging, getting out for a walk, taking photographs, down-to-earth creative people, potting about in my little patio garden, honesty, drawing, walking, coffee and chocolate : )

It hasn’t been a good book-reading year for me. I think I’m getting a Google-brain…oh dear! Ironically I’m currently (trying) to read ‘The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People’ by Stephen R. Covey.
Here are a few other books I read, loved and recommend…
The Time Traveler’s Wife – Audrey Niffenegger
Rachel’s Holiday – Marian Keyes
People of the Lie – M Scott Peck
The Great Gatsby – F. Scott Fitzgerald
The Lovely Bones – Alice Sebold
The Secret Life of Bees – Sue Monk Kidd
I recently read ‘The Giving Tree’ by Shel Silverstein to my three year-old nephew and it made me tear up.

I’d love a coastal countryside home with a veranda, swing seat and a gorgeous view of over natural shades of blue and green. I could happily spend my days painting, taking photos, gardening and blogging. *Sigh* It’s lovely to dream!

I love dresses but feel my most comfortable in jeans. I tend to wear skinny jeans (even though I’m not skinny), t-shirts, flat pumps, flat boots, cardigans and scarves. I love being comfortable and not falling so I although I have them, I hardly ever wear heels.

It’s cliché but I have to say ‘time.’ I’d love a few more hours in the day of creative happy time. Don’t we all?! 🙂 The unglamorous side of blogging is that it takes time – lots of it (and all the fellow bloggers say “amen sister!”) I love everything about it, and it’s rewarding when people enquire about advertising because then I know I’m on the right track, but I try to keep a balance. I’m acutely aware of not spend my life online at the expense of my marriage. Plus a girl has to live a little 🙂 I’m determined to carve out more time for other creative projects. I have a few canvases patiently waiting to be painted, a serious longing to papier-mâché stuff and improve my photography skills.

Thanks so much Monique for taking part in this series – it’s such a fun way for me to get to know more about my fellow bloggers and I get great feedback from readers who love this series too!

Kathryn Rossiter

Kathryn is a South African lifestyle blogger and mom of 2 who has been blogging daily for over 9 years! She writes about travel, health, beauty, fashion, decor and family... but not food (unless it's food she's eaten made by someone else) as she is a hopeless cook. She only wakes up early for 2 things... a red-eye flight to somewhere exotic and early morning game drives. She has just finished an extensive home renovation and would prefer to never see another box again. She's never met a chocolate or glass of bubbles that she didn't like!
