How to… Make Breakfast Beautiful

I’m a firm believer that life should be lived beautifully. There’s far too much negativity and traffic in the world for us NOT to celebrate the good and the lovely.

For our own sanity we need to find moments where we appreciate something beautiful and where we take the time to pause long enough to enjoy the sheer pleasure of living.

Living life more intentionally is a great way to express gratitude for our lives and to fully appreciate the world in which we live.

Life is made up of so many beautiful moments: a beam of sunlight on a winter’s day, a whiff of a flower bursting into bloom, the taste of something spectacular (not made by our own hand!)

Breakfast is one such moment. Often the meal that is most overlooked in our busy lives, breakfast can actually be redefined as a moment of beauty, if we let it!

Choosing to prioritize a beautiful breakfast every morning can actually help to centre ourselves before heading out to face the world head on.

Why not make breakfast a moment of beauty in your life this week?

5 tips on how to make breakfast more beautiful…

1. Sit down to eat.

Whether you sit at your kitchen counter or a little table on your outside patio, sitting down is far preferable than standing and scoffing as it allows your body and mind to relax and prepare for the onslaught of the day.

2. Put down your cell phone.

So many people turn to social media before they’ve even taken their head off the pillow or drunk their first cup of coffee. Rather charge  your phone in a different room overnight and only collect it at set time in the morning like at 8am AFTER you’ve enjoyed a peaceful breakfast.

3. Choose a delicious breakfast.

Eating a breakfast that you always look forward, ensures that you never skip this important meal. Get ideas from what they serve at hotels on the continental buffet. Try granola, yoghurt & honey, a fruit smoothie, poached eggs with salmon, a slice of rye toast with avo or a platter of fruit (even if it’s just a granadilla and yoghurt)

4. Relish eating every mouthful.

Slow down when you’re eating and chew properly. Digestion begins in the mouth and we can avoid many problems later on if we actually chew each mouthful for a count of 20 seconds.

5. Make the most of the moment.

Life is a series of moments. Make each one count. Don’t save heirloom items for special occasions only, rather choose to use them on a daily basis and enjoy their beauty more often. Set the space with just a few pretty things such as a hand-crafted bowl, a colourful tea towel, a pretty honey jar and your gran’s silverware and enjoy this beautiful moment, even if it’s just for 5 mins!

Yes, breakfast is just 5 minutes of your day but that adds up to 35 minutes of your week and, ultimately, 30 hours a year!

Why wouldn’t you want to add 30 beautiful hours to your life every year?

Start with breakfast!

She writes about travel, health, beauty, fashion, decor and family... but not food (unless it's food she's eaten made by someone else) as she is a hopeless cook. She only wakes up early for 2 things... a red-eye flight to somewhere exotic and early morning game drives. She has just finished an extensive home renovation and would prefer to never see another box again. She's never met a chocolate or glass of bubbles that she didn't like!
