I’ve been getting great feedback from some of my readers about how much they are enjoying this series so I hope to be able to keep bringing attention to the huge variety of charities and amazing organizations out there that need help!
For something different today I am sharing a video with you. The SA Teen Entrepreneur Foundation is the brainchild of Lydia Zingoni – An Academic Librarian and Economic Historian by training, who was touched by a number of requests for information from young students who wanted to form their own businesses after graduating from university. This gave her insight into the predicament that many young South Africans face – they are finding it increasingly difficult to find employment after spending a fortune on their education.
The main aim of the Foundation is to instil a culture of entrepreneurship in young people. The focus is on the teen years as these represent the most important period in the development of young people. Initially the Foundation was solely funded by her savings, but the need for this awakening of young people’s entrepreneurial passion is so huge that most of Lydia’s time is now spend fundraising for her cause and in parallel running workshops.
Watch to find out more about one of her success stories…
With over 18 million teenagers in South Africa, Lydia thinks that society should encourage young people embrace a culture of entrepreneurship. A culture is best taught when people are young.
The biggest challenge for the foundation remains funding. Resources are needed urgently to reach as many kids as possible!
