Recently I was invited to experience the wintery weather delights of the Franschhoek valley and we spent a day wandering from fireplace to fireplace enjoying amazing food, wine and views but none of the destinations we visited could top La Residence for sheer opulence!
This is a beautiful boutique hotel situated in a private setting on a hill overlooking the valley and offering sweeping views and vistas from every angle.
We arrived in time for tea but before we settled down to indulge in the High Tea spread laid out before us, we were offered a quick tour of the rooms and suites… and knowing this is the spot Elton John liked to stay when visiting South Africa, we had to see more!
The rooms are next level amazing… furnished with the most exquisite decor, large, welcoming, comfortable and luxurious.
Guests can choose from Luxury Rooms, Superior Rooms or Vineyard Suites. In total the hotel sleeps 38 adults and 4 children, in 11 Hotels Suite and 5 Vineyard Suites. The suites are beautifully decorated, each with its own unique colour scheme and decor style with beautiful bright colours, rich textures, fresh flowers and picture perfect views from every window. Each room has a private balcony or patio that looks over the lush gardens, to the surrounding mountains and the vineyards.
After a tour of the rooms in both wings of the residence, we meandered through the garden down to the Villas which are were families (even those of the peacock variety) can make themselves at home!
After our tour of the high life it was time for High Tea and we were only too pleased to be able to sit down and soak in the stunning scenery from the terrace while enjoying the decadent delights on offer…
The patio at La Residence was the perfect place to unwind with views over the lake, valley and even a black swam to keep us company!
After my short visit it was easy to see why La Residence has been awarded so many of the top hotel awards in the world by various travel and lifestyle magazines. This surely is the ultimate destination for those looking to spoil someone special! Here’s hoping someone will spoil me with an overnight stay soon.

I visited La Residence as an invited guest of Franschhoek Tourism. This post is unpaid and I was not obliged to write about my experience. I write reviews and feature beautiful places on my blog in order to inspire others to find new, exciting and different places to eat or stay at. All images and views are my own.
