Lunch date at Harbour House, Constantia Nek

One of the hot new spots in Constantia for a high end dining experience is Harbour House, Constantia Nek.

Perched on the “Nek” of the mountain, this recently restored restaurant has incredible views down over the vineyards of the Constantia Valley and beyond to the Hottentots mountains in the far distance.

On a recent Friday afternoon I was able to rendezvous here with my husband for a quick, yet delicious, bite to eat. A sneak day time date, where we were able to enjoy the view, a glass of amazing local wine and seafood of the highest quality.

A review of Harbour House, Constantia

The interior of Harbour House is simple, yet stylish. With plenty of white, the decor is understated while reflecting it’s Cape heritage with “riempie” chairs, fynbos flower displays and old photos that capture life in the Cape in a bygone time.

Our table was next to one of the large windows that look out over the small herb garden, and beyond to the beautiful views.

Harbour House is known for their fresh, local ingredients, especially their great variety of high quality seafood reflected in their daily specials menu and signature dishes.

We knew we would be sampling some of their seafood delights straight away!

For starters I opted for their Marinated Seafood Ceviche. A light salad of fresh fish, prawns, calamari and mussels, dressed with lime and coriander, bella rosa tomatoes, roast peppers, cucumber and red onion. This dish comes highly recommended! Not only does it look a treat, but it’s fresh and light, bursting with flavour – a perfect way to start your meal at Harbour House. Brad opted for the Avocado Ritz with tempura prawns which was also beautifully presented and full of flavour.

For mains at Harbour House it’s always best to go with the specials menu or the recommendation of your waiter… the menu changes daily and is dependant on what fresh fish is available.

I’m a salmon fan so opted for the Norwegian Salmon Line Fish with garlic mash, green beans, rocket, Japanese mayo, salsa verde and soft poached egg, while Brad chose the Kingklip.

For dessert I’m always a chocolate girl so it’s pretty hard for me to choose anything else off the menu. When I do I’m often disappointed. But sticking with my chocolate habit I’m hardly ever disappointed and I certainly wasn’t with my choice of  the Valrhona chocolate tart with butterscotch, Hazelnut praline powder and Ice cream. It was incredible! Decadence deluxe!!

Brad continued his search for the most perfect Panna Cotta in Cape Town…

Harbour House at Constantia Nek offers exceptional food quality, amazing service and a great overall dining experience in it’s stylish space. Highly recommended for a special occassion (or a sneaky lunchtime treat!)
