Hair Heroes

Recently I taped a video featuring my Hair Heroes – my favourite hair products and styling tools – for Mumspiration and thought I would share it with you today over here:

To summarise I have listed all the tools and products I shared in the video below plus a few extras that I’ve started using since the filming of the video!

Tools

Tangle Teezer
Fitting snugly into the palm of your hand, these amazing brushes are perfect to detangle all types of hair effortlessly with just one brush-stroke. As I mention in the video they are even great to use in super-knotty kid hair – with no complaints!! Get your hands on one of the fun bright colours or patterned options and embrace smoother, shinier style! Until you’ve tried one for yourself you won’t know what you’re missing. There are a few different versions – Salon Elite gives professional results in the palm of your hand by detangling wet and dry hair. The Compact Styler is a super convenient version that can be popped into your bag and pulled out to reboot hair in seconds. It has a removable cover to protect the patented and innovative teeth from fluff and dirt. (After my video I lost my super practical black compact styler – so bleak! ) (From R230 – R260 at selected hair salons and www.retailbox.co.za)

Another similar hair brush I’ve been using for my daughter is the Tangle Angel – a professional detangling brush which can be used on wet or dry hair, hair extensions, children’s hair and while blow drying. It is made from a anti-bacterial, heat resistant, anti-static material and has a handle which makes it easier for kids to use on themselves. (R240 at www.hairheroes.co.za)

Invisibobble
An innovative new hair band with a crazy design – the invisibobble is a traceless ring made of plastic and available in a wide variety of colours. The idea behind this product is that the spiral design ensures that you never feel the pressure on your head or get headaches often associated with wearing tight hair bands. As it has no seam it also ensures that you avoid breaking the hair or causing split ends. (R80 for 3 at www.everythinghair.co.za and www.retailbox.co.za)

ghd Gold Styler
My ghd Styler doesn’t need much introducing as many of you already know the merits (or have read my previous review here) but it definitely deserves a place on this list as one of my Hair Heroes. This tool has changed my life!! No longer do I have to look like the yeti – I have within my hands the power to transform my lion’s mane into locks of loveliness! LOVE! (From R1299 – R2000 at selected hair salons, www.retailbox.co.za, www.everythinghair.co.za and www.hairheroes.co.za)

Other essential hair styling tools for me include my widetooth comb, a ghd carbon anti-static fine tooth comb and a few ghd clips – the latter two are both really useful items when styling your hair with your ghd and I definitely need to invest in a few more clips as they are super helpful for me – separating all my hair into sections definitely makes using my ghd so much easier.

Shampoo & Conditioner

Davines Absolute Beautifying Shampoo and Conditioner
This gorgeous smelling shampoo and conditioner contain roucou oil (extremely rich in beta-carotene that helps to restructure your hair) and are perfect for all types of hair and I’ve been really enjoying using this product. Davines believes that to create beauty, you must encourage people to not only take care of themselves but of their environment. Davines has some more great thoughts on sustainability and are also into renewable energy: The use of as little raw materials as possible; The use of recyclable materials; The optimization of logistics and quality control processes to avoid waste. It’s also paraben and sulphate free! (R230 ea at selected hair salons)

Dove Intensive Repair Shampoo and Conditioner

About a year ago I reviewed this product and it’s still on my shopping list which must mean something! It’s a great budget buy for lovely looking hair. (R62.99 ea at Pick n Pay and selected retail stores)

Pure Beginnings
This is a great range and I love using their products as I’m guaranteed that they are pure and don’t contain any nasty ingredients such as petrochemicals, parabens or animal products etc. The ingredients are certified organic too which makes this a great option for using on kids as the products are non-toxic. I’ve recently started using these for my own kids who struggle with eczema and they haven’t had a reaction at all (R85.00 ea at selected health shops and www.purebeginnings.co.za)
Another great brand to use for kids hair is ecokid – my son (7) has suddenly discovered their hair wax!!

I’m not someone who needs any help with thickening my hair but I recently heard about Loreal Elvive Fibrology which promises to actually thicken the hair shaft and create thicker hair – something I know many, many fine-haired people are after so you might like to look out for it if that is your particular hair concern. There is also a Thickening Mask and Double Serum in the range and they are available at selected retail stores.

Hair Oil

One of my favourite finds when it comes to hair care are hair oils. These are a few I am currently using and loving…

038 (800x533)

Moroccanoil
The original argan oil that burst onto the scene about 3 years ago is now also available in a Light Formula. It is a conditioning, styling and finishing tool that instantly absorbs into the hair to help create shiny, silky hair. (R450.00 at www.everythinghair.co.za and www.retailbox.co.za)

L’oreal Elvive Extraordinary Oil
This beautifying oil is suitable for all hair types and has a multi-tude of uses. It contains a blend of 6 oils extracted from rare flowers and has a subtle scent. (R159.00 on www.zando.co.za)

Inoar Extreme Premium Oil
Another amazing oil from Inoar – my new favourite. It’s an exclusive product that has an exotic combination of ingredients including Argan, Macadamia, Rose Imperial and Myrrh oils – the scent transports you to another wonderful world! This oil contains anti-bacterial properties making it great to use for scalp problems (even lice!) The texture of this oil is a light-weight slight gel consistency but it doesn’t leave any greasy residue – it is instantly absorbed and leaves my hair feeling (and smelling) amazing! (R545.00 at hair salons and spas and on www.inoar.co.za)

Styling products

045 (800x533)

ghd Heat Protect spray for thick & coarse hair alternatively you can also use the usual Heat Protect Spray – this is an essential product to use BEFORE you style your hair with heat whether it be a hairdryer or straightener. Not only does this product help to protect your hair shaft against heat damage it also helps to control and defrizz your more easily and gives your hair a more sleek and smooth finish. It is applied to towel dried hair before blow drying or spray it all over your dry hair between washes if you are using your styler. (On sale for R150 each at www.retailbox.co.za)

An alternative if you don’t (yet) own a ghd is to use something like Marc Anthony Style Straight This is a blow dry straight potion to use if you don’t own a straightener. It will stretch out frizzy curls and waves and transform your hair into silky, smooth, shiny hair. (R124.95 at Dischem/ Pick n Pay/ Checkers)

L’oreal Paris Elnett Satin Heat Protect Styling Spray for Waves
This brand is one of the most trusted when it comes to hair spray and they have recently launched 2 Heat Protectan Sprays – for Waves and Straight – both offering protection up to 230C for 3 days! I enjoyed using the Waves version – it protects hair against heat damage during styling, reduces fly-aways and frizz, and gives soft wavy definition to my hair while still maintaining it’s shine. (R74.95 at selected retailers nationwide)

Fudge Urban Sea Salt Spray
Looking to create some waves with “beach hair”? Then this fun product is perfect for you! This is a texturising spray that smells like a tropical island… coconuts to be exact. To get a cool, fun texture to your hair spray in and scrunch up for a naturally sexy look or spray and blow-dry to pump up the volume to your hair. (R99.95 at Clicks)

Fudge Urban Hair Spray
Another amazing smelling product from this funky range of hair care products – Iced Raspberry and Vanilla! This is a strong hold hairspray that hold hair in place for up to 24 hours while still leaving it feeling soft to the touch. It contains ant-frizz properties that help to smooth and seal the hair giving you a perfect finish! (R99.95 at Clicks)
