Late last Saturday afternoon we were in the city centre after visiting the National Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition at the SA National Musueum (one of my “must visit” exhibitions held each year at this time) We weren’t quiet ready to head home yet so I suggested a visit to the new kids play area at Green Point Park.

I had visited the section for 0 – 6 year olds but never the area for slightly older kids and wanted to see what was on offer.

When we arrived I was overwhelmed by the number of families out enjoying the last of the sun. Picnics dotted the lawn and there were plenty of kiddies birthday parties going on too. There was a great atmosphere of Capetonians enjoying their city!

My kids thoroughly enjoyed both the play areas – we had to visit both as we have kids who are at different levels – slides and swing, monkey bars and ropes, see-saws and balance beams – there was so much to do! We could have stayed longer but had to head home for supper, but before we did we snuck in an orange ice lolly for good measure….

Green Point Park has become so popular and is such an asset to our city. I hope it remains well cared for so that many more families can enjoy it! Unfortunately, I did notice that many of the groups seemed to be leaving litter around and not putting it in the designated recycling bins. It was a bit annoying considering how new and lovely this space is…. I hope that everyone who enjoys it keeps it that way!

Kathryn is a South African lifestyle blogger and mom of 2 who has been blogging daily for almost 7 years! She writes about travel, health, beauty, fashion, decor and family... but not food (unless it's food she's eaten made by someone else) as she is a hopeless cook. She only wakes up early for 2 things... a red-eye flight to somewhere exotic and early morning game drives. She has just finished an extensive home renovation and would prefer to never see another box again. She's never met a chocolate or glass of bubbles that she didn't like!

  1. Cool. Tnx for another great article & catering to mom’s needs to keep kids busy ^^,)
A definite visit for fun & fresh air…hope weather holds for a picnic for me & my boys, while dad enjoys Grand Prix minus the usual madness keeping boys busy on a Sunday afternoon.
    Cheers & tnx again

    1. Thanks Lucille. Glad you are enjoying my content! I do aim to make my site a useful resource for moms in CT. Enjoy your picnic. I think the weather might be better tomorrow 😉

  2. Wow I didn’t know about this park, thank you. I am still new in the Western cape and not even living around the CBD but my family loves exploring Cape town even if we are from the Boland. Great post sisi, thank you

  3. Hi there, could you possibly tell me if there is a booking fee at green point park for kiddies birthday parties, would highly appreciate it

    1. Hello Shameema. I don’t think that there is as this is a public place but as I’m just the blogger who wrote this blog post I’m not best placed to confirm this. I do know that it’s important to get there first thing though as it’s a very popular venue.
