Goodbye Stretchmarks

An aspect of pregnancy that I was not privy to prior to conceiving was the one involving just how much my body would change beyond recognition – never to be seen again! Yes, it was a given that my stomach would grow to 20 times it’s usual size but I didn’t quite count on other parts of my body expanding along with it! Somehow I had fallen for the lie that is the Hollywood pregnancy – a sweet little round basketball-sized bump and a bum that fits into skinny jeans on leaving the hospital….. If you’ve had kids you’ll be laughing about now, if not, then don’t say I didn’t warn you!

An unfortunate side effect of all these changes is, that along with the expanded girth, comes a few battle scars – stretch marks. After my first pregnancy I was left devastated that my previously pretty bust had become a road map of sorts and my bikini days were over, and let’s not even mention my thighs and bum! Ok so not all these body parts are usually aired in public but the blow to my self-esteem was huge. I’m sure a fair percentage of those baby blues are due to the new mom looking at herself in the mirror for the first time post-birth!

As you might be away I am a huge lover of magazines and devour more than my fair share including the UK ones I borrow from the library or sneak a peak at in Seattle Coffee Shop. It was amongst the pages of the international glossies that I first heard about the miracle product that is Mama Mio. Beauty editors and real moms alike were raving about their amazing range of products especially one known as Goodbye Stretchmarks. What was heartening to me was that so many moms were looking for this type of product and secondly that there was something that might help get rid of stretchmarks for good…. until I realized it wasn’t available in South Africa!

Fast forward 5 years and I was chatting to a blogging friend at a launch and discovered that she was able to get her hands on some for me to try as it had recently arrived in South Africa! Hooray. Within a few days I had my hands on my own bottle of the magic stuff and was super keen to try it out…. she suggested I use it over a few months before giving my verdict as it’s the type of product you need to use for a while to see the results. The aim was to use it for 3 months as often as possible. The way it works is you need to apply the divine smelling cream like a finger paint onto each stretchmark 2 – 3 times a day to see optimum results.

If you are unfortunate enough to be familiar with stretchmarks you will know that they start out as purple and slowly fade to white or silver. The best time to treat them is while they are still in the purple phase as this is when the connective tissue is still trying to reconnect and this is the perfect time when you can start using the Mama Mio Goodbye Stretchmarks product. However, it does also work on the faded, silver stretchmarks – you just have to be more intensive about using it. Another real bonus about the product is that it is safe to use during pregnancy too as a preventative cream so best you start now if you’ve just got a positive test result…

I am still using the product as I have passed this purple phase (my eldest will be turning 6 shortly) and I have had to view my use of the product as a intensive exercise in commitment and patience. The product itself smells and feels amazing and is a pleasure to use. As a new mom I think it’s very worth spending the time to pamper yourself before bed by applying the cream to the neccessary areas. I have seen a difference in the lines on my bust and lower stomach and I am definitely feeling more bikini-ready than I have in years. The mileage this product has done for my self-confidence is worth the price tag! I am so looking forward to seeing even more results over the next few months… Look better, Feel better is their motto and I say: Bring on Summer!

Mama Mio’s Goodbye Stretchmarks contains radically effective ingredients that are clinically proven to reduce the appearance of stretch marks by over 70%. It is the best stretch mark minimising product on the market that works on new or old stretchmarks; whether they came from pregnancy, teenage growth, weight gain, weight lifting or cosmetic surgery.

From my review you may be lead to believe that Mama Mio only make Goodbye Stretchmarks but I can assure you that they have the most fabulous range of beauty products (for body and face) for women of all ages and stages (not only moms!) The body concerns they have a product for include:
o Cellulite
o Tummy/ Waistline
o Boobs, Chest & Neck
o Bum
o Loose, crepey skin
o Bingo wings/ Flabby Arms
o Existing Stretch Marks
o Stretch Mark prevention
o Scars
o Dry Skin
o Dry Lips/ Cracked heels/ Cuticles
o Water retention
o Pregnancy s-t-r-e-t-c-h
The 4 women who founded Mama Mio certainly know what products to create to appeal to women – they selfishly created the ones they wanted to use!! I think I’m not alone in wanting to stock up on their entire range!! I am especially keen to get my hands on the Boob Tube bust and neck firmer. Another area affected by pregnancy – but that’s another story for another day 😉

She writes about travel, health, beauty, fashion, decor and family... but not food (unless it's food she's eaten made by someone else) as she is a hopeless cook. She only wakes up early for 2 things... a red-eye flight to somewhere exotic and early morning game drives. She has just finished an extensive home renovation and would prefer to never see another box again. She's never met a chocolate or glass of bubbles that she didn't like!

  1. I was surprised at the ability of the skin to stretch so much because i was HUGE!! My ankles looked liked logs and i was not happy until i found out that this is common in pregnant women. Stretchmarks….I used a tissue oil but still have a few i would love to get rid of!!!

  2. Liked the facebook pages and LOVE Mama Mio! I was surprised that my skin would itch, all over! Some say it’s from the stretching, some say it’s from the hormones. Whatever the reason it’s an annoying symptom to say the least! In the 3rd Trimester now so I desperately need this product for my ever expanding belly!

    Holding thumbs…

  3. It think what surprised me most, was how unprepared I was! And how little women actually share about those nasty surprises. I know it’s not the same for all, but I wish women would just talk to each other. A couple of my ‘surprises’: Carpel Tunnel Syndrome, not feeling an immediate bond with my baby after she was born, my MASSIVE feet after giving birth. But all that, and the stretch marks and 20 extra kg’s I STILL carry, is all worth-it!

  4. 4 weeks after giving birth to my twins, I NEED this product! I made it to 35 weeks without stretchmarks, and they appeared in my last week of being pregnant! What surprised me about pregnancy (even third time round) was how amazing it is to feel your baby move for the first time!

  5. Definitely the STRETCHHHHH MARKS I never had a single stretch mark on my stomach but the moment I found out that I was expecting (at 5 weeks) I immediately noticed a stretch mark 🙁 and now my baby is 8 months old and I’m sitting with a stomach that looks like a map ;-( ………..Rescue me please!!!

  6. I think no one really want to grow up, so mostly being grow up, but still wanting to play with dolls was the most stressful experience. Oh, and growing quickly so that skin stretches and gives you stretchmarks didn’t help me much with all growing up business. Like both pages already. And subscribe to this blog.

  7. Nobody told me how I would glow and how much attention I would receive or how my partner would look at me with his ‘I adore you’ eyes and now when I look at my angels how I know they were so worth my battlescars.
And now that they are growing up and I want to bring sexyback my stretch marks needs some serious TLC:)

  8. Jo gets my vote! I also have twins & they are now 10 years old so my vote is with any mom who has new babies! What surprised me most about being pregnant was just how big my stomach could actually get…!

  9. What surprised me the most about being pregnant was that a squishy tiny sperm could become the most beautiful little creature i had ever seen…and was surprised another 3 best surprises i have ever received in life..

  10. The stretchmarks surprised me- I knew other people got them but I didn’t really expect that I would! Nor did I expect to get them on my thighs and breasts as well as my tummy!
Also the way my body changed overall was a (not very pleasant) surprise. Not just the increase in size (you kind of expect those extra kilos to leave along with the baby don’t you?) but also the way my body is softer now- regardless of gymming and dieting I still have more softness to me.

  11. I am a fan of both pages already – I’ve also heard wonderful things about the Mama Mio products so would love to try this for my stretchmarks from gaining & losing weight!

I think what surprised me the most about adulthood is that in the process of growing up we forget to really live! We are so busy with our responsibilities, jobs and everything else and we allow ourselves to get so caught up in what we have to do that we forget to do what we want to do or at least make excuses as to why it is just “not the right time”.

We should not in fact seek comfort in the promise of tomorrow for it is not guaranteed! Every year that passes, you reflect back and try to count your accomplishments, instead we should be able to look back on yesterday, if we have the opportunity of seeing tomorrow, and be able to say I would be proud of the life i’m living and the things that I’ve done with my life! Adulthood means taking responsibility for many things but it doesn’t mean that between all that we shouldn’t live the life we want!

One of my favourite quotes is by F. Scott Fitzgerald – “For what it’s worth: it’s never too late, or in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a live you’re proud of. If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again”.

I hope that through living my life, I can inspire others to truly live theirs!

  12. my biggest suprise about pregnancy was no matter how much cream/ special cream you rub over your body to stop stretch marks, if you going to get them you going to get them!

  13. kath, i have to get this!! as u know i am currently preg and at my 12/13wk scan i weighed what i did when i was full term with my 1st (didnt realise how hard it would be to lose the baby weight). would love to try out this cream.

  14. Relaxine really hit me badly, by the last month I could hardly walk. I was bed-ridden, so I put on loads of weight and got huge stripes.

  15. I was mostly surprised by how my body was able to change and stretch so much and with that came the very bad deep, thick permanent stretch marks despite using various anti-stretch mark creams and tissue oils

  16. i was always fairly small in the bra department, and tht amazed me, even now 6 months after breast feeding i quite nicely fill my bra’s!!! and also the strech marks, nobody told me not to scratch whenit itches, and now i have these thick dark streches….terrible, but amazed me!!!

  17. I have read so many things that say be proud of your stretch marks they are your racing stripes,or your are a tigeress that earned her stripes…and thats fine it helps a little…but im only 26, and have 2 boys 4 and 1 who i completely adore, and i was super punctual about applying my coco butter to my tum during pregnancy and thats fine, there are one or 2 tiny tiny marks but nothing bad…what i wasnt barganing on was my upper thighs and boobs, they look like a preschool class had an art project on them… worst thing is i couldnt see it while i was expanding only once i started deflating…i have worked soooo hard to lose the baby weightbut i still wont be in a costume without boardshorts and a tank top this summer

  18. Would so love to get rid of stretch marks, I look like a road map, will this still help if stretch marks are not so NEW !!!

  19. What surprised me the most of Adulthood, was that your metabolism is not staying the same as it was before. But I have matured into a young independent lady, I know what I want in life and I go full force into what I want. And you never to old to do anything in life. So far I’ve had a great experience and I know I have many more years to come. All my experiences have made me wiser and I have learnt alot. Cant wait to see what my future has in store for me, my parents have taught me alot and I will always appreciate everything they have done for me.

  20. ABSOLUTE exhaustion during pregnancy!! No morning-sickness – lucky me – but I could hardly walk up the stairs to make it to the bedroom to lie down!

  21. What suprised me most about adulthood is how much ones body changes, as a woman we go through so many stages. Our body is amzing and incredible but also so very daunting, accepting these changes and not being harsh on things you have no control over such as natural hormonal fluctuations is a huge step into adulthood.

Liked on Facebook already under One Stiletto At A Time

  22. I’m due in December with baby #2 and she’s stretching my skin to the max… really need all the help I can get!! During my first pregnancy I was really surprised at how taxing it is and how one minute I was flying high on happy hormones and suddenly want to cry… Its insane, but totally worth it!

  23. I’m 20 weeks into my first pregnancy and have just recently started feeling baby move around – that’s definitely the most surprising (and magical!) thing about pregnancy for me so far! I absolutely love the Mama Mio Range and already have the ‘Lucky Legs’ and ‘Tummy Butter’, but as someone who is prone to stretchmarks (thanks, pubescent growth spurt!), I could so do with a bottle of ‘Goodbye Stretchmarks’!

  24. I was surprised because we had just given up trying and got a huge surprise with a postive pregnancy test after trying for so long and a miscarige.

  25. When I was pregnant, I was totally amazed at my tummy’s ability to grow as huge as it did! I have a very small frame, but had the most massive stomach! I was also incredulous at the fact that all I wanted was raw garlic with little cubes of cheese and also wanted to put olive oil on everything!…oh, and chocolate! wo be anyone who even asked me to share my precious chocolate!

  26. I found it amazing how one can literally not keep ANYTHING down for 3 months and not die…I just discovered 2 brand new stretch marks making their way down the back of my thighs…ahh bliss ,o(

  27. What surprized me the most, was my breasts that got so much bigger than it already was. I just couldn’t believe it and I got so much stretch marks that I use stretch mark oil every day of my life! This would be a great addition to my collection….

  28. What suprised me most about adulthood is that my skin would stretch and scar so quickly. I thought it would be more gradual. Definitely need this product! I already like all the facebook pages and subscribe to your blog 🙂 crossing fingers!

  29. I am a fan of both pages already. For me I didn’t really think about how much your skin changes during adulthood. Its more high maintenance than when you are a kid. Scars and marks bother you more as an adult also!

  30. just how tierd a person can be, with my first child i didnt pick up alot of wight and my stomack was very small but with my second child i was so big they thaught im having twins and ive pick up alot of weight and i still struggle with my stomack to get it smaller, and shes almost 2 years old now

  31. I was always skinny and still had stretchmarks. I began karate last year and my physician suggested I use the dermalmd serum which is really great with nurturing the skin.
