I recently took these pictures of some poppies that I bought for myself using the macro setting on my new cellphone camera – the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom (review coming soon!) I loved them so much I had to give them a post of their own.
The colours, the clarity, the detail, the beauty…. I was really reminded about how beautiful everything is, how intricately designed and detailed God made each living thing, right down to the stamens on the plants. In our busy lives we often don’t remember to “stop and smell the poppies” so to speak so while the scents of spring are wafting through the air at the moment it is the perfect time to do just that! It is so important to refocus every now and again and remind ourselves about what is important. Spending 15 minutes examining these poppies closely, getting right “inside” them and enjoying every aspect of their beauty was so special. It really helped me to be more mindful of enjoying life’s simple pleasures.
I’ve also taken to enjoying more music in my home and car – not just playing the radio, but actively choosing music that will create the atmosphere I am looking for (or need) at that moment. I’ve been playing more Christian worship music as I love how it sets the tone for my day. Putting on something uplifting or calming really does help everyone start the day on a positive “note”!
So I urge you to take some time out this week to look around or up or down. Just redirect your focus off what you “must” do and choose to focus on something that you ordinarily would pass by in a blur of busy. Or just NOT focus for a while and see what happens. Embrace the pleasure of nature or beauty or colour or simplicity or detail or music or silence or nothing at all.
