Goals for 2013

So I am slowly getting back into the routine of life now that BOTH kids are back at school – yes BOTH kids are out the house and I’m blogging IN THE MORNING – not into the wee hours of the night…. Amazing! What a sense of peace, quite, serenity and FREEDOM having 2 kids at school every day and the house to myself. I have waited over 6 years for this very day!

Alas, it’s not going to be all fun and games and morning movies – I do need to earn some money too so I’m super excited about a new opportunity that allows me to work from home doing something I love and still allows me the flexibility to blog, attend events and pick up my kids. I am one lucky mama!

To be honest I have been struggling a bit with finding my blogging mojo since I took off 2 weeks over the holiday period. The blogging break was much needed and I really relished NOT sitting in front of a computer every day… but I enjoyed it a bit too much and have found myself drawn to watching TV series or reading instead of blogging. Bad Blogger! Anyway I hope to rediscover my mojo now that I have more time on my hands… and I’m pretty sure I will. I am quite excited about what this new thing called TIME might mean for this wee blog. 2012 was a great year for Becoming you but I know that 2013 will be even better and I can’t wait to discover how. I’m sure you can’t either, right? With that in mind please do leave a comment or send an email to me and let me know what you would like to see more of on Becoming you or what has been your favourite series or post in the past year. I’d be very keen to get some feedback!

So what do you have planned for 2013? And how have you been fairing with your New Year’s Resolutions? The past 2 years I have taken on the habit of selecting a word to represent the coming year. The Word of 2011 was Simplify and The Word of 2012 was Truth. For 2013 I have chosen Acceptance – of myself, of others and of circumstances.

I have also set a few other personal goals. In fact, my hubby and I (plus kids) took ourselves off for a lovely day in the country where we enjoyed lunch at the beautiful Joostenberg farm near Paarl and then lazed around on the lawn chilling and chatting about the year ahead. We had 7 headings and together wrote down our personal and family goals.

Here are a few of our goals for 2013:

More frequent “Date Nights” – every 2 weeks at least!
Time alone with each child – alternative Sat mornings.

Reach out more and make more of an effort to keep in touch with my girlfriends.

Develop and grow Becoming you by writing more helpful, original content.

Save more (more like “start saving” haha)

Get to gym at least once a week (hey I’m starting with achievable goals here!!)

Simplify and organize – get rid of things we don’t use.
Plan towards renovating our home (My timeline is this year, Hubby’s is 3 or 4 years time…. Will have to work on this one! In the mean time expect lots of posts about homes I love – will be spending far too much time trolling Pinterest than is healthy! Follow me here!)

Pray more!

How about you – have you set some goals for 2013? I’d love to hear them. Don’t be a blog lurker… leave a comment 😉

Kathryn is a South African lifestyle blogger and mom of 2 who has been blogging daily for over 9 years! She writes about travel, health, beauty, fashion, decor and family... but not food (unless it's food she's eaten made by someone else) as she is a hopeless cook. She only wakes up early for 2 things... a red-eye flight to somewhere exotic and early morning game drives. She has just finished an extensive home renovation and would prefer to never see another box again. She's never met a chocolate or glass of bubbles that she didn't like!

  1. Wonderful set of goals! And your word for the year is perfect. Acceptance is also at the centre of my goals – accepting myself and my life, enjoying what I have and working harder (and wiser) to get to a place where I feel happy and content.

All the best for 2013! xxx

  2. HeeHee so funny we too – well Grant mostly have done the same type of goals for 2013, which we do each year but I have found myself reluctant to participate this year – whether it is the denial of turning the big 40 I am not too sure! So alas I find myself also lacking that mojo to get going but the year will go on no matter what I do so I best get my a into g and get it together! Good luck with realising all your set goals & so many more! 🙂

    1. Well it’s not too late to set some goals for this year. Maybe now your big “hurdle” is over you’ll be more motivated 😉
