It’s not often I get complimented on my hair. Yes, it’s thick and there is lots of it, but those kind of comments are NOT compliments when what they really mean is “Holy cow how am I going to blow dry all of this” OR “You look like a yeti”….
So, when you get not 1 but 3 compliments on the same day saying “Your hair looks lovely”, “You look like you’ve been to the salon” and “Have you done something to your hair” you know you’ve done something right…
And yes I have indeed – I struck GOLD with my very first ghd hair styler!! After 3 years of blogging up a storm one of my blogging dreams was realised recently with the delivery of my very own
Just a few weeks prior I had been invited to attend a ghd educational evening at Spoilt Salon in Green Point and while it was hugely informative and fun evening with loads of great ideas on how to style your hair using the ghd style, I left feeling very dismayed that amazing hair was not to be for me as I didn’t have my own ghd with which to practice these looks at home!
I resigned myself to knowing that I would have to continue going to the hairdresser whenever I had an event such as a wedding to attend. No point forking out for a new dress, accessories, shoes and perfecting my make up when my hair always let me down at events! I had decided that every wedding I attended would require a visit to the hairdresser first… But unfortunately my clever plan did not take into account out-of-town weddings which meant that at my best friends wedding in March I had to embrace the messy beach hair look instead of a super sleek and sexy hairstyle!! Not cool
Evidence no 1:
Now I do realise that many women would kill for long, thick hair and that my hair woes pale in comparison to the opposite end of the spectrum and I am grateful for my abundance, but there are certain issues that comes with super thick hair (as is evident in this BuzzFeed meme round up!) One of these is that my hair takes forever to dry. Sometimes I leave it to air dry, which can take a whole day, and on those occasions you probably can’t see my face behind all the hair such is the wild frizz that ensues! It’s not a good look, which means that more often than not I attempt to blowdry it but my weak arms fail me and I give up before getting to the back which inevitably means that the front may look decent enough to me in the mirror but I have no idea what is going on at the back. And I was OK with that. Until I saw this picture…. one taken of me from behind – how horrifying!!
Evidence no 2:

ghd Size 4 Ceramic Vented Radial Brush
Every second day since it’s arrival in my life I have been diligently spending a few extra minutes styling my hair in the right way (only on 100% dry hair, using the heat protect spray etc), and the rewards have been huge! My husband who is usually one to keep quiet when it comes to all things girly has on more than one occasion said “Wow, that ghd thing really does the trick” or something along those lines!
I had been eyeing one out for quite some time and he had been stalling me due to the financial outlay and couldn’t understand why I didn’t use the flat iron I had lurking in the depths of my cupboard, there was no convincing him but NOW even he is a convert! Yes, my husband of all people even says to me before we go out “Aren’t you going to ghd your hair?” and if I’m pressed for time he has been known to do the last few bits while I apply my mascara before we head out the door.
And I, of course, am totally in love with this wonderful new addition to my life… I’m one lucky lady – with good hair! Thanks ghd
