What I… Gaelyn from Heart of Iron

I love discovering new blogs and today I’m sharing my space with a reader of my blog who started her own not too long ago! Gaelyn’s Heart of Iron is her space to document her life, progress, challenges and struggles as she prepares to tackle her first Ironman… and this while being 40% disabled due to a simple surgery that went wrong, she’s also lost 35kg and started a business to encourage others to do the same! Talk about inspirational!

But now let me hand over to Gaelyn herself…

What I
I am worthy! I am deserving of love, of success, of happiness and joy, and of peace. I know that I am strong, I am powerful, I have the ability to share my experiences and story with others and inspire them to change and grow. I am spiritual, I am deep, I am forgiving. I know that my purpose for this crazy beautiful life of mine is slowly but surely being revealed to me, and I know that I LOVE where it’s going!
I am a lover, I love so easily. Perhaps too easily? I love my husband, the day I met him I told my sisters he would marry me. And he did! I love his daughter Zoe, I am her “bonus mom” and I love fulfilling that role in her life. I love my parents and siblings. I adore our pit bull Zeus! I love CrossFit, I love the ocean, I love travel and adventures, I love challenging myself and I love inspiring others. I love pizza, pop corn and chocolate. A lot!
Anything with words! My favourite type of book is a rather depressing one, I love true stories about abuse, hardship, troubles, neglect and pain and suffering. Why do I choose such morbid books? Because every single one of these people has had SO many reasons to quit, to give up, to end it all. But they don’t! They fight back, they overcome and they triumph! And each one of these stories inspires and motivates me. If they can make it through such trauma and pain, why the heck can’t I get through my silly challenges?
To finish writing my books. I started 2 completely different ones a while ago, but lack the discipline/courage/skills to actually sit down and WRITE like a writer would. I want my words, my thoughts, my story – published!
I’m really quite boring, and am a tom boy with virtually no interest in fashion! So it’s generally gym clothes, track suits, summer dresses or pj’s! I wear slops or takkies (I adore my Toms!) and if I struggle I to heels it will only ever be low wedges, not more than once or twice a year. Before my drop foot, I would be barefoot as much as possible!!
To finish my first (and only) Ironman 70.3 race in January 2014. It’s a 1.9km swim, a 90km cycle and a 21km run. I’m doing it despite my disability, and I know that I need to do it to prove to myself that my floppy foot doesn’t define or control me. I need to know that I can do something people say I can’t!

Kathryn Rossiter

Kathryn is a South African lifestyle blogger and mom of 2 who has been blogging daily for over 9 years! She writes about travel, health, beauty, fashion, decor and family... but not food (unless it's food she's eaten made by someone else) as she is a hopeless cook. She only wakes up early for 2 things... a red-eye flight to somewhere exotic and early morning game drives. She has just finished an extensive home renovation and would prefer to never see another box again. She's never met a chocolate or glass of bubbles that she didn't like!

  1. This might be my favourite “What I” interview yet! Just love Gaelyn’s attitude! 🙂
I am ALL for exercising and health and doing things and agree with everything she said here!

  2. I second femmegypsy! Gaelyn, you might not realise this yet, but you are a powerhouse of inspiration, with your unwavering positivity

PS: we are very much the same when it comes to fashion.
