Fragrance File: Gabrielle Chanel Eau de Parfum

Chanel. The name evokes all things classic, stylish, simple, refined and elegant. This is a brand that speaks to luxury and class. One that is glamorous without trying too hard… A concept that most of us would love to capture in our own lives!

One of the easiest ways to capture a bit of the Chanel magic is by choosing to wear one of their iconic fragrances… Some of the most cherished across the world include No.5 , Coco Mademoiselle, Chance and one of my personal faves in years gone by, Allure.

Tomorrow, 1 September 2017, sees the launch of the newest Chanel fragrance. This will be the first fragrance from Chanel in 15 years so you must know it’s something special….

Gabrielle Chanel Eau de Parfum

The new CHANEL fragrance is named Gabrielle as an ode to the brand’s iconic founder, Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel.

Gabrielle Chanel perfume

Before creating the House of Chanel, Coco was Gabrielle.

In a time when women were made to conform, Gabrielle Chanel was a rule breaker. A rebel at heart…

She was the first designer to put her name to a fragrance. She made bronzing stylish at a time when pale skin was a sign of wealth. She made trousers fashionable for women outside of factories.

It was her rebellious spirit that drove her to huge success, beating all the odds that were stacked against her: extreme poverty, growing up an orphan and being female.

Her passionate, free spirit forms the inspiration behind the new luminous floral fragrance: Gabrielle Chanel

This exciting new scent aims to celebrate the extraordinary personality of its founder while conveying a very modern message: for the young women of today to live freely, by and for themselves.

The scent

Crafted by Olivier Polge, his first for Chanel, this Eau de Parfum is an imaginary flower — radiant and sparkling. Purely feminine.

Based on a bouquet of four white flowers: a rich, enveloping heart of exotic Jasmine, the fruity green notes of Ylang-Ylang, fresh and sparkling Orange Blossom and a glimpse of Grasse Tuberose, a rare extraction that is both sweet and creamy.

I was lucky enough to receive an advance media sample of this new scent and my first impression is one of supreme elegance, yet simple. I love it’s gentle floral fragrance as I’m a huge fan of pretty floral scents and this would make a lovely day time scent, especially for younger woman looking for something fresh. After wearing it for a few mins Gabrielle leans towards the sweet side and a vanilla-wood-musk combo comes to the fore.

It has been likened to Coco Mademoiselle, although this scent is darker, spicier, and deeper while Gabrielle is lighter and more girlish.

The scent lasts most of the day on the skin.

The bottle

There’s no denying it, the packaging for Gabrielle Chanel Eau de Parfum is gorgeous.

The box sticks to Chanel’s classic design, although it’s gold with white edges and inside the box, the bottle is nestled in a protective thick white cardboard inner sleeve with an imprint of its silhouette, adding an extra dose of luxury to this already exquisite brand experience.

The Eau de Parfum comes in a simple square Art Deco-style bottle of delicate glass molded to look like it’s delicately quilted in five squares, with a gold label with raised black lettering settled into the center square. The bottle looks remarkably similar to the classic No.5, however it is much cleaner and there is no neck ribbon.

This bottle causes the fragrance to appear to be suspended weightlessly within the square bottle. The bottle is crafted of ultra-thin glass and the four transparent sides fade into the background to let the light shine through.

The base of the bottle is super thin, in fact it’s the thinnest perfume bottle to date, which apparently took the fashion house 5 years to perfect! If you look at most perfume bottles, you’ll see they have a solid bit of glass at the bottom, whereas the Gabrielle bottle has a base that is barely there.

The campaign

2017 is the year of Gabrielle Chanel Eau de Parfum.

The ad campaign film was directed by Ringan Ledwidge and will be released tomorrow. It stars talented actress Kristen Stewart and captures her courageous, valiant, bold and impassioned femininity.

The film takes a bold new direction as it celebrates an extremely modern femininity built on confidence, determination, and independence. A race towards freedom!

Watch it here:

Who wears Gabrielle Chanel Eau de Parfum?

Like the Chanel brand, the scent is timeless and classic. A modern take on the white floral, it is ideal for those who enjoy sweet, sensual scents for everyday wear.

Flirty, flighty and fun!

This will make a great choice for new perfume lovers who are ready to amp up the next sophistication level and will definitely encourage a new generation of Chanel lovers….

  1. I’m always skeptical about buying new perfumes, mainly because I’m super picky. I really like the scents that make up this perfume though. So I may have to give it a try!
