Tech Talk: Foreo LUNA – a review

So today’s post falls under both Tech and Beauty which is kinda odd if you’re from the old-school way of thinking about beauty, but if you’ve been reading about the latest happenings in the beauty business then not so weird at all!

Today I’m reviewing the Foreo LUNA – a new beauty gadget from Sweden that’s been taking the industry by storm! Face cleansing tech devices are all the rage with cleansing brushes from Clarisonic, Olay and Clinique all hitting SA in the past few months.

Unfortunately I have not received any of these brushes to review so I’ll be honest with you and say that I can’t compare the Foreo LUNA to any of these brushes but what I can tell you is my experience with the Foreo LUNA…

When it arrived I was less than convinced that this little gadget was intended to clean my skin. I mean how?! But the Foreo LUNA has proved me wrong..

What is the Foreo LUNA?

The device is a handheld vibrating silicone egg-shaped disc – more new age alarm clock or fancy sex toy than face cleanser! The LUNA for Sensitive/Normal Skin’s brush surface features thinner silicone touch-points for gentle cleansing, with an area of thicker touch-points grouped towards the top for deeper, precision cleansing. The anti-aging side on the reverse consists of a series of concentric silicone waves.

What does the Foreo LUNA do?

Designed to deep-cleanse skin, boost circulation and relax facial muscles for anti-aging benefits, this nifty little beauty tool really works. The device comes in three different designs for normal/ combination skin, normal/sensitive skin and the ultra-sensitive skin. It removes dead skin cells and unclogs pores of dirt, oil, and makeup residue, while enhancing the absorption of your favorite skincare products. It comes in soft baby pink or bright blue.

How does the Foreo LUNA work?

Silicone touch pads are activated though T-Sonic (transdermal sonic) pulsations which remove dead skin cells and cleanses the pores of dirt, oil and makeup residue while increasing the absorption of your skincare products.

The Foreo LUNA device has tiny little silicone nodules all over the end of it that you massage over your skin, the rounded nodules work to “wiggle” the dirt off the skin and direct it down into the base of the device so that it’s trapped in the gaps.

How do you use the Foreo LUNA?

I found the Foreo LUNA to be really gentle on my sensitive skin and I’ve enjoyed using it every evening with the Optiphi Foaming Face Cleanser after removing my makeup with Bioderma Solution Michellaire but you can just use the device to do both for you with just one step as it’s really effective at removing makeup, even long-wear makeup. I usually use if for two minutes at night, but it’s gentle enough to use twice daily.

Wet your face, apply your face cleanser to your skin and then massage it in using the Foreo LUNA and work it up into a nice lather. The device pulsates three times to prompt you to move to different areas of the face. Start with your left cheek and chin – moving the LUNA in circular motions – then move to the right side of your face on the first pulse, then the forehead, and lastly, the nose. The LUNA will pulsate a last time to inform you to press the power button and stop cleansing. Afterwards, the LUNA will glow blue to indicate that it is ready for the next step, which is the facial massage. Switch to the back side, with lower-frequency pulsations, to massage the skin, which helps to improve the absorption of your skincare products, some other bloggers use it to massage in their serum or face oil for deeper penetration. A bonus is that it also gives a really relaxing face massage at the same time which is heavenly to use just before bed as it helps to erase the stress of the day that you carry in your face! I found the device easy to use although a little bit uncomfortable over the harder parts of my face eg. forehead but I think the results are worth the minor discomfort….

What results to you get from using the Foreo LUNA?

Clear, clean, smooth, glowing skin that feels amazingly fresh and alive! After using the anti-aging massage mode I definitely notice that the frown lines between my eyebrows are less obvious too.

From other reviews I’ve read online this really works even when compared to the Clarisonic which has been deemed the “greatest cleansing device of all time” One beauty blogger did an experiment and went over her skin with her Clarisonic AFTER she had finished with the Luna and found no more dirt left on her skin to be removed which is quite remarkable when you consider that the Foreo LUNA is totally non-abrasive and gives you an anti-aging, circulation stimulating, face massage at the same time!
