Last week I started a new series featuring my photography of a holiday we took to Italy a few years ago. I am featuring the photos in the order of the places we visited. Last week was Venice – the starting point of our trip. This week is the turn of Florence otherwise known as Firenze in Italian – something I learnt upon trying to find out which train to catch at the station in Venice – Florence was NOT on the timetable at all!! Very confusing until I figured it out. Not many travel guide books made mention of this. At least you will now know this bit of info when you find yourself next looking to catch a train to Florence! I hope you find some inspiration in the photos below to start planning a trip to Italy, be it next year or part of your 20 year plan! It is definitely my favourite travel destination thus far – but then again I haven’t travelled nearly as much as I would like to!
We stayed in Florence for 2 nights and managed to visit the main attractions such as the imposing Duomo and the Ponte Vecchio bridge. We also hightailed it up some VERY steep stairs in order to catch the sunset from the viewpoint over Florence you will see in the photos below – please appreciate those – it was quite a workout to get there in time!!

Want to take a virtual holiday to Italy?
See more of this beautiful country by coming along on my Italian holiday. Our itinerary will take us to Venice, Florence, Tuscany, Lucca, Pisa, Cortona, Positano on the Amalfi Coast, Capri, Rome, Bay of Poets, Milan and the Cinque Terre!
