My Festive Makeup

I hope you have all been having an amazing festive season and enjoying the holidays as much as I am. I have been loving lazying around and spending time with family and friends – the perfect way to wind down 2013!

Today is the last day of the year which means tonight is New Years Eve! A great excuse for a fun night out (or in!) Now I’m not usually one to celebrate in a big party but I do enjoy a chilled evening with good food, friends and wine…

I had planned to do a post about my favourite products for festive makeup just before Christmas (but got a bit caught up in the planning and prepping so never posted it) Anyway I thought I would share my favourite products to create a “festive” look now as the festive season is not yet over!

So here are some of my favourite products that you could use to create a fabulous festive makeup look for tonight or any other exciting night you might be looking forward to in 2014!

Start with your perfect foundation or BB/ CC cream to create a flawless base from which to work. From my chats to makeup artists and those more knowledgeable about these things prepping your skin correctly and spending extra time on this step is well worth it! My current faves for night are the Revlon Nearly Naked in Fresh Beige and the Juliette Armand Color Control CC Cream (pictured below). Cover up spots and dark circles using a concealer stick.

I’m loving the SeboSpecific camoflage stick from Yves Rocher. (not pictured) Another huge hit

Once you’ve prepared your “canvas” you can move onto the next layer -working from the base up just as an artist would! As it’s summer in our neck of the woods I’ve been swopping out my pink blusher for some seriously sexy bronzer instead…. much more sexy! And what could be more luxurious than this amazing gold compact bronzer and brush from the king of luxe… Michael Kors! Besides loving the packaging (and the large mirror!) I’m also really enjoying this product for the amazing healthy glow and fab contouring effects it creates! If you want to add in just a slight hint of colour to your cheeks apply a pop of Peaches by MAC  (not pictured) just above your cheekbones for a youthful blush! Another huge trend when it comes to cheeks is a dewy glow so dab a spot of iconic Elizabeth Arden 8 Eight Hour cream on your cheekbones, temples or eyelids for a luminous glow! It will also soon be available in this cute little pot!

Next stop is the eyes. This amazing Eylure makeup compact has all you need for creating the perfect smokey eye makeup. It comes with 3 x eyeshadow colours, a liquid liner, black mascara and set of false lashes plus step-by-step instructions on how to get the look! The Eye & Lash sets are available in 4 different colour combinations – Warm Smokey, Cool Smokey, Neautral/ Natural & Shimmer and cost only R149.95.  Well worth it! Two other eye makeup products I enjoyed and I thought would just finish off the look and frame your face are the Ofra eyebrow tint pot in Light Brown and the Essence eye shadow pen in “Want to be my Freshman”, to add a hint of shimmer on your brow bone or the inner corner of your eye.

Last but not least – the lips! The festive season is all about red so my choice for lips with this look is a bright, bold red. Elizabeth Arden has a fabulous Rouge in their Ceramide Ultra Lipstick which gives a rich colour with a creamy texture. If you’re more a fan of a gloss then go for the Crabtree & Evelyn Red Sparkle Shimmer Lip Gloss or Michael Kors Lip Lustre in Siren (not pictured)

A final finishing touch is to paint your nails! I’m going through a real nail polish phase at the moment and I’m loving neons, brights, reds, pinks and corals but for a sophisticated, sexy look I’m loving the new nude by Michael Kors called Hint. Or you could opt to carry the pops of red through by using Sensation (not pictured) on your toenails!

There you have it… my favourite finds for a fabulous festive face!

Have a Happy New Year! See you in 2014
