Spa Review: An Esse professional facial at Little Green Box Spa in Constantia

When it comes to skincare nothing beats a professional facial and treating yourself and your skin to a pamper is always a worthwhile investment.

I was recently invited by superb South African skincare brand, Esse, to enjoy their signature bespoke facial which harnesses the power of their professional skincare range.

To enjoy the experience I headed over to visit Peta from The Little Green Box Skincare in Constantia. We had met previously when she first launched her salon in 2015 (Read my previous post), so it was very special to see how far she has come with building her business and really loved to catch up.

Her little salon is an eco-friendly skincare clinic that believes in ethical and sustainable skincare and she uses Esse Probiotic Skincare (Certified Organic by EcoCert) as the only skincare range because of their aligned ethos. The brand are certified organic, vegan and cruelty free and Esse supports the fair trade movement and is a carbon neutral company. Their company philosophy includes providing skincare that is ethical and sustainable and they are Phytrotrade Africa accredited which monitors plant diversity.

This incredible organic skincare collection contains advanced pre & probiotics which improve the microbial mix on the skin.

  • Probiotics protect, hydrate, improve barrier function, skin firmness, slow the rate of aging and detoxify.
  • Prebiotics are food sources for beneficial microbes. By giving them food, they proliferate and thrive thereby excluding the pathogenic (harmful) ones.

Esse’s treatment range contains beneficial probiotics to create an environment on the skin that favours the growth of beneficial microbes and an optimum skin microbiome. As World leaders in probiotic skincare, Esse incorporates its BIOME+ technology along with organic ingredients and high end natural actives to deliver remarkable results.

Esse skincare products are designed to optimise skin health and to slow down the ageing process in the long-term. There are Esse products to target the following skin issues:

Acne
Dryness
Eye Area
Oilness
Pigmentation
Sensitivity
Skin Ageing

My main concerns are always ageing, dryness and dehydration so I’m always keen to experience products that will heal and soothe stressed skin. Not only does this professional facial deliver these results, it also boosts collagen production, calms inflammation, and strengthens the barrier function.

The 75 minute Esse experience is tailored to your skin concerns, yet with an added boost of microbes delivered in an ampoule that will supercharge your skin to be its very best!

During the Esse facial, Peta used beautiful rituals and unique techniques to deliver much more than the usual cleanse, extract and moisturise. The specialised treatment included a combination of thorough steaming, deep pore cleansing and facial extractions. She also included massage and mask techniques that allowed her to customise the products she was using on my skin.

The highlight of this particular Esse professional facial treatment, however, is the NEW probiotic ampoule and exclusion mask.

These two unique products are brand new and exclusive for Esse therapists only. They include the live Probiotic Ampoule and the oxygen excluding Exclusion Mask.

The Probiotic Ampoule contains 5 billion live cfu /ml and, when used as an occasional boost, can shift the skin towards a “new normal” that is less prone to inflammation that leads to an increased rate of ageing. The product is ideal for ageing skin as well as skins with microbial imbalances.

The Exclusion Mask is a setting mask that forms a layer over the skin creating an anaerobic environment meaning there will be no oxygen between the mask and the skin. Creating this environment provides an ideal opportunity for the probiotics to further divide and colonize. Your skin will be covered with billions of live probiotic microbes (not as gross as it sounds – believe me!) that will actively shift the skin in the right direction by means of competitive exclusion. This allows the beneficial microbes to occupy all the docking sites and use all the nutrients, leaving no space and food sources for possible opportunistic microbes… that leads to inflammation and blemishes etc!

These two new professional products give the new Esse Experience an edge: the opportunity to “rewild” the skin.

For me, a favourite moment in the treatment was the cool exclusion mask which was applied to the entire face (including over the eyes, but excluding the mouth!)

While this worked its healing magic, Peta massaged my feet and ankles which was so incredibly relaxing!

Ultimately my skin has felt and looked calm and radiant all week, even garnering a few compliments from friends, which is ALWAYS a good sign that a facial has worked wonders.

For best results with this facial it is advisable to continue home care using Esse products. Fortunately, The Little Green Box stocks the Esse retail range and Peta would be delighted to recommend products for your specific skin concerns. She has done the same for me and I’ll be trying these out and reporting back on my results over the next few months!

The Little Green Box is a wonderful small, ethical, local business that is certainly worth supporting. Peta has very kindly offered all Becoming you readers an incredible discount off their first Esse Facial at The Little Green Box.
