Dove is a “Do”

I love what Dove as a brand is doing for women around the world. Their beauty philosophy of inner beauty being more important than what can be seen has always spoken to me. It’s definitely one I believe in and want to impart on my daughter from a young age. At age 3 she has already become aware of her appearance (even remarking about how she doesn’t like her freckle – where did she get that idea from?) I do love to embrace her “girlyness” and playing with make-up, painting our nails together or putting on some pretend high heels are all fun aspects of being a girl, but I need to find a balance between allowing her access to these while reminding her that they are not the only important thing in life. I want her to be 100% aware that her value is never determined by how she looks so I particularly liked this campaign Dove ran encouraging parents to talk to their daughters before the rest of the world did with regards to beauty!

There have been so many other wonderful Dove ad campaigns that speak to women – most recently a video showing women who described themselves to a sketch artist and then compared those drawings to someone else’s description of them to the same artist?

And this similar version of daughters describing their moms? Or how about the video showing you the transformation of a model using photoshop to what we see on the billboards? And the campaigns shot using real women in all their natural glory be that with different skin tone, hair colour or body shape?

Yes, Dove certainly do know how to embrace the inner beauty shared by all women. What also helps is that their products promote this mission even further by making us as women feel amazing! You can’t deny how important body confidence is to your entire well-being. As a woman when you feel great about yourself and comfortable in your own skin you feel so much better about life in general. A new Dove product that is helping women feel better about themselves is the Nourishing Body Lotion Range. It delivers deep nourishment to each layer of the skin, working from the surface layer down* and giving your skin 10 days of nourishment**. The breakthrough Deep Care Complex in the Body Lotions Range feeds every layer with a unique combination of natural skin nutrients and essential oils that help to gradually improve the skin from the inside out!

What were my thoughts on Dove’s Essential Nourishment Body Lotion for Dry Skin? The lightweight, milky cream is luxurious and quickly absorbed leaving the skin soft, supple and moisturised. The next morning my skin felt smooth and less dry and tight than it otherwise would have – even after a shower!

Kathryn is a South African lifestyle blogger and mom of 2 who has been blogging daily for almost 7 years! She writes about travel, health, beauty, fashion, decor and family... but not food (unless it's food she's eaten made by someone else) as she is a hopeless cook. She only wakes up early for 2 things... a red-eye flight to somewhere exotic and early morning game drives. She has just finished an extensive home renovation and would prefer to never see another box again. She's never met a chocolate or glass of bubbles that she didn't like!

  1. What a great post. Love the clips. I really love this Dove campaign because it touches so close to the heart and is a very real issue for women globally. As woman we are so hard on ourselves and add to that woman being hard on each other and men & society and the pressure gets rather overwhelming. Here’s to fully embracing who we are flaws and all and celebrating our ourselves.
