Over the past month I have been using Dermalogica skin care products as recommended to me during my Microzone treatment at the Dermalogica Concept Store in Wembley Square. Overall I have been very happy using the products and seem some improvements in my skin during this time.
I’ve been fortunate to be able to try quite a few of the Dermalogica products, and if I’m honest I’ve never had such an extensive skin care routine before! I’m usually a cleanse and moisturise kinda gal so having an array of 10 skin care products to use in various ways at different times was a bit overwhelming at first. However over the weeks I have begun to establish my own little routine that has made it much easier to remember to use everything!
My biggest skin care concerns are dehydration, congestion on my chin and jaw plus some damage, sensitivity and redness on my cheeks and around my nose! Lovely!! It is worth bearing in mind that the products that will be recommended for you will be different according to the results of your personal Face Mapping skin analysis and the condition and health of your skin! First up here is a list of the Dermalogica products I have been using in the order that they appear in my skin care routine…
PreCleanse (R450 for 150ml)
PreCleanse wipes (R250 for 20)
Ultracalming Cleanser (R430 for 250ml)
Ultracalming Mist (R480 for 177ml)
MediBac Clearing Mattifier (R595 for 40ml)
Ultra Sensitive Tint SPF30 day cream (R445 for 50ml)
Skin Smoothing Cream night cream (R790 for 100ml)
Age Smart Multivitamin Power Firm eye cream (R640 for 15ml)
Daily Microfoliant (R770 for 75g)
Multivitamin Power Recovery Masque (R625 for 75ml)
Obviously using so many products isn’t for everyone. Time and money constraints being the two big obstacles so I thought I would highlight a few of my favourites that I would consider repurchasing… and then, if you read to the end, you’ll be in for a happy surprise as I have some to give away! Hooray!!
This product has been a revelation to me, before being introduced to PreCleanse I had never known that it was very important to double cleanse the skin, especially at night, in order to ensure that all makeup, sunscreen and debris from the day has been entirely eradicated, this step is then followed by a treatment cleanser of your choice which is able to penetrate the skin more deeply due to the PreCleanse.
The original product is an oil which is then emulsified with water when you wash it off – many people might find odd, as adding oil to your skin seems the opposite of what most of us want – but I have found the results I have achieved using this are really great, my skin feels moisturised and hydrated, not stripped of all life!
Dermalogica PreCleanse is formulated with conditioning Rice Bran and Vitamin E oils and offers a deep cleansing ideal for even the most oily skin conditions. It is also formulated without artificial fragrances and colours.
The newest offering from Dermalogica are in fact their iconic PreCleanse in wipe form… yes, PreCleanse Wipes are here making it even easier to remove all traces of makeup and dirt at the end of the day – even when you are dead tired and can think of nothing worse than a long, drawn out beauty routine! The wipes contain Aloe and Apricot Kernel Oil which attract oil and instantly dissolve even the most stubborn mascara, waterproof lip stains and sunscreens. The formula gently loosens surface debris, such as industrial pollutants. By melting away these deposits on the skin, cleansers and other products may then work more effectively. The product also smoothes, calms, and nourishes skin. The handy pack of 20 wipes is also perfect for traveling so you won’t have to worry about oil spillage in your suitcase!
I’ve not always been very good about using a toner and I’m told that it is in fact one of the essential steps in a skin care routine as it is the product that resets the ph levels of your skin. So, with that in mind I’ve tried to be a bit more diligent about using the Dermalogica version – the Ultracalming Mist. I’ve found this product to be super refreshing and hydrating. I’ve used it as part of my skin care routine post cleansing to help lock in moisture and calm my redness, but it can just as easily be used throughout the day to help to calm sensitive skin and maintain hydration levels. It contains oat and botanical actives that work below the surface to interrupt inflammatory triggers that lead to sensitization, while soothing aloe helps to calm the skin and minimise discomfort, burning and itching. A great option for anyone struggling with tight, dry, sensitive skin.
Skin Smoothing Cream
This was the moisturizer I was recommended as a night cream and I have loved it, so much so that I have started using it as a day cream too because the option that was recommended to me for day use, the Ultra Sensitive Tint, hasn’t really been one I’ve enjoyed using – I found that product too thick, very hard to spread and to dry for a moisturizer. Anyway back to the Skin Smoothing Cream… This has been lovely. I enjoy the texture of the cream – not too thick or too light. My skin has felt more hydrated, smooth and supple after use. It contains deep moisturizing lecithin and aloe gel to nourish and my sensitive skin really does lap it up. Extracts of Mallow, Cucumber and Arnica soothe and hydrate the skin, helping to restore suppleness and tone while antioxidant Grape Seed Extract and vitamins C and E help shield skin from environmental assaults.
Multivitamin Power Firm Eye Cream
When it comes to eye cream I have also been a bit slack, half hoping that I would avoid those pesky fine lines and finally realizing that is not going to happen and they are appearing thick and fast which is why I am a huge convert to this product! The Multivitamin Power Firm Eye Cream is probably my favourite product listed here. The results I have achieved using it are fab and I can see a visible difference on the mornings when I have applied it the night before – the lines around my eyes are far less noticeable. On the days when I have skipped it, the skin around my eyes has been dry and the lines far more obvious. It also makes a great make-up prep prior to concealer or foundation application in the eye area as the makeup doesn’t sink into the fine lines!! Bonus.
The product contains Vitamin A (Retinol) which help to accelerate the skin natural repair process as well as antioxidant vitamins C and E to improve elasticity while scavenging free radicals. Seaweed Extract helps firm and minimise the appearance of fine lines. As with all the other Dermalogica products featured here it is formulated without artificial fragrances and colours.
This is another one of Dermalogica’s iconic products with a really good reputation and I can now see why. The Daily Microfoliant is a really gentle physical exfoliator with superfine particles of rice that is a great addition to anyone’s skin care routine as it is suitable for all skin types and conditions. The product can be used daily but due to my redness/ mild rosacea I have only been using it twice a week to start with. The product comes as a dry power and activates upon contact with water, releasing Papain, Salicylic Acid and Rice Enzymes that micro-exfoliate dead surface skin cells leaving your skin smoother, brighter and glowing! Other properties in the product help to balance uneven skin pigmentation as well as calm the skin. I can see why some fans of this product call themselves addicted!
Multivitamin Power Recovery Masque
After using the Daily Microfoliant a few times a week I have been using this super hydrating masque and it has been a real indulgence for my skin! The Multivitamin Power Recovery Masque is a super moisturizing product that is aimed at replenishing stressed and ageing skin (I suppose that is what my skin is….eeeek!)
Powerful, concentrated vitamins A, C, E and F help skin recover from damage that leads to skin ageing while enhancing barrier properties. Vitamin A helps increase elasticity and moisture content while antioxidant vitamins C and E help shield skin from Reactive Oxygen Species (free radicals). Nutrient-rich Algae Extract helps moisturise and soften skin, and Pro-Vitamin B5 helps nourish damaged skin while botanical extracts of Licorice, Comfrey and Burdock soothe, calm and help decrease sensitivity.
Apply this masque after cleansing and exfoliating has been a real treat and definitely given my dull, dry, dehydrated, damaged skin a much needed boost! Love!
I’m very excited to have a R2000 gift voucher for one lucky Becoming you reader to spend on Dermalogica products of their choice, or on those that have been recommended to them after their own Face Mapping skin analysis at a Dermalogica stockist near them.
