Decorex 2012

Decorex Cape Town is happening this weekend (26th – 29th April) at the CTICC are you planning to pop in? I am hoping to go a little bit later today… If you are planning to go please remember to support the Naledi Literacy Project by taking along any second hand children’s books you are happy to donate to this worthy cause. This year M-net Cares are supporting Literacy Project which encourages the importance of reading and literacy in young South Africans. All the books collected will be donated to a new library that is being renovated.
While at Decorex Cape Town be sure to visit the M-net Cares Café and you might even get the chance to hear a story by renownced South African storyteller and author, Gcina Mhlophe! I am certainly keen to hear her unique talent in action…

The project is also being supported by Salvocorp (the official distributor of Staron by Samsung), as well as local designers and businesses such as Aidan Bennett, Katie Thompson of ReCreate, and Joe Paine who have all designed bespoke children’s bookshelves. Thompson’s design uses the iconic modern day smiley face to communicate the enjoyment offered by reading. Aidan Bennett’s bookshelf depicts the outline of the African continent, illustrating how reading opens up the mind and transport you to worlds outside your daily existence and Joe Paine’s shelf is an impressive slanted pigeon-hole design.

The M-net Cares Café will also be offering decor inspiration specifically on the typography trend. All the furniture, including a curved counter, four bookshelves, letter bar stools, tables and chairs by Eclipse as well as the Samsung televisions will be donated to a Naledi library supported by M-net Cares after the show.

The book collection box can be found in the foyer area adjacent to the ticket pay points so even if you aren’t attending the show you can drop off your used books.

Decorex Cape Town runs from 26 to 29 April 2012. The show is a hotbed of colour trends, eco interiors, fabric trend spaces, pure inspiration and practical solutions. Visitors can indulge in free inspirational décor talks and stylish food demos, eat in modern pop-up restaurants and meet up with top designers in curated roomsettings. Plascon is the main sponsor and M-net is the media partner.

Kathryn is a South African lifestyle blogger and mom of 2 who has been blogging daily for over 9 years! She writes about travel, health, beauty, fashion, decor and family... but not food (unless it's food she's eaten made by someone else) as she is a hopeless cook. She only wakes up early for 2 things... a red-eye flight to somewhere exotic and early morning game drives. She has just finished an extensive home renovation and would prefer to never see another box again. She's never met a chocolate or glass of bubbles that she didn't like!
