Weekend Wanderings: A night at De Hoek Country Hotel in the Magaliesburg

On the last Thursday in August I flew up to Lanseria Airport to rendezvous with my husband for what was to become a seriously epic weekend away…

A #BucketListWeekend in fact!

We arrived after 6 and sped through the dim light of dusk towards our home for the night, De Hoek Country Hotel in the Magaliesburg, chosen for its’ convenient location to our Bucket List activity scheduled for very early the next morning!

Once safely there we quickly checked into our room, dropped our bags and headed straight to dinner.

Served in an intimate dining area, the food at De Hoek proved to be outstanding, and well worth booking a weekend here for alone (esp if you’re a foodie from the Gauteng area!)

I started with an Aubergine Stack (I’m currently trying to choose more vegetarian options!). It was served with goats cheese, grilled peppers and micro greens.

This was followed by the most delicious melon sorbet!

For mains I opted for the pan fried salmon with green beans, fondant potato and a lemon verbena sauce while my husband ordered the grilled ostrich with onion marmalade, butternut, rocket polenta and Madagascar sauce. Both tasted as good as they looked!

Then for dessert I opted for a lemon curd crumble with Italian meringue while my husband opted for a trio of sorbet.

After almost a week apart we relished an evening spent catching up (with no interruptions!) and the delicious food was an added bonus!

Back in our room I discovered the most AMAZING spoil for a Capetonian… a full bath (a rarity in the Cape these days!)

The candles and rose petals were a nice touch, but the true luxury was a full tub of water for me to soak in, total bliss!

Knowing our wakeup call would be before the birds we headed to bed, setting our alarms for 4:30am!!

Hot Air Balloon rides wait for no one and there was  no chance we wanted to be late for this experience of a lifetime!

Unfortunately our tight schedule we didn’t have much time at all during daylight to enjoy the gorgeous grounds of De Hoek Country Hotel, but I managed to catch a glimpse (and a few pics) to confirm that I really do need to return…
