A daily tradition in our home which I love, is that we always sit down together as a family for our evening meal. We love gathering around the kitchen table and no matter how cramped and chaotic it is, those few minutes of sharing our day together are always a highlight for all of us.
This time together means that my seven year old can share the highlights of his school day and my four year old can remind us “Dad, you haven’t said how was my day”. The food is generally quite quick and easy and very often the same old favourite we ate last week, but that’s not the focus… what’s more important are the laughs and stories and time together!
In today’s society, the “concept” of families eating together has dwindled which I find incredibly sad. TV, technology and the very active social lives of teens and adults alike have inhibited families from enjoying sharing special moments around the dinner table. A very tangible love is felt when you share a meal with someone and I want my kids to feel that every day! As the saying goes,”a family that eats together, stays together”, and I really do hope to see this evident in our home all the way through the tumultuous teen years!
