Enjoying a family friendly night out at Col’cacchio Westlake

One of our favourite spots to eat out as a family is situated at the Westlake Lifestyle Centre near Steenberg. The bonus is that not only are there a few restaurants to choose from, there is also a secure outdoor play space for the kids to run wild in! Recently we visited Col’cacchio to sample there new summer menu…

We tried various items from the new summer inspired menu which was full of fresh, healthy options including stunning salads, perfect pizzas and delicious desserts all bursting with colour and flavourful textures and tastes!

We started with the delicious salads… My husband ordered the lusso made up of quinoa, roasted onion, cucumber, pickled ginger, bulgarian yoghurt and coriander and I tried the chiaro, a combination of lettuce, rocket, smoked salmon, cherry tomatoes, crispy capers, avo, spring onion, pickled red onion and dill. Both were heavenly and certainly made you think how much more a salad could be than the usual Greek variety I whip up at home! If only we were able to eat inspired salads like this everyday…

We are trying to eat a bit healthier in our house so the cheese-less pizzas were another perfect option for us. I tried the miracola, with no mozzarella, but the toppings of lettuce, coriander, seasoned chicken, roasted pumpkin seeds, salted caramelised seeds, crispy onion, garam masala yoghurt made it delicious! My husband ordered the arrosto with roasted red pepper, asian deboned smoked ribs, rosso onion, smoked paprika, mature cheddar! I sneaked a piece and it was seriously good!

The in camicia (with mozzarella, shiitake mushroom, oven roasted mushrooms and poached egg) and the carpacci (with no mozzarella but plenty of rocket, beef carpaccio, pickled red onion and mustard mayo) both looked mouthwatering. My kids tucked into their spaghetti bolognese like it was their last meal! Far yummier than they one we make it home obviously!

For dessert we tried the old faithful vanilla sundae and I the meringa – a delectable jumble of crushed Meringue, fresh Berries, Cream and Berry Coulis…. perfect summer flavours! Next time I’ll be sure to try out the stacci – icing sugar dusted pastry topped with Nutella! YUM

What an amazing experience we had – from the welcoming waiters to the delicious food and the kids entertainment – from pizza dough (that was baked for them!), crayons and paper to the fab outdoor play area – everything was lovely! We will definitely be back to savour summer with Col’Cacchio pizzeria!
