Coco Chanels’ Apartment

I came across these photos of the interior of Coco Chanels’ Apartment in Paris located at 31 Rue Chambon. Gabrielle (a.k.a Coco) Chanel used this space as a base for her business over 75 years ago. Although she never slept here – she did that across the road at the Ritz hotel – this Orient-inspired place was where she entertained guests including artists Giacometti, Stravinsky and Dali.

One of the most famous features is the spiral, mirrored staircase where Coco could position herself to discreetly watch the first reactions of the audience as each new design was unveiled as the model descended the stairs.

Many of the items in the apartment have been the inspiration for various collections by Chanel herself right up to the current creative director of Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld including a miniature birdcage that played inspiration for Chanel’s “Coco” perfume campaign, featuring Vanessa Paradis.

She writes about travel, health, beauty, fashion, decor and family... but not food (unless it's food she's eaten made by someone else) as she is a hopeless cook. She only wakes up early for 2 things... a red-eye flight to somewhere exotic and early morning game drives. She has just finished an extensive home renovation and would prefer to never see another box again. She's never met a chocolate or glass of bubbles that she didn't like!
