When not rocking a baby or playing “tea”, Cheska blogs over at Kimmy & Bear and contributes as a freelance stylist and writer to a number of South African publications.
Cheska is co-founder of Kimmy & Bear, which was founded by three sisters all in varying stages of motherhood. Cheska is a first time mama to baby Francie Sugar who was born last year. The Kimmy & Bear brand has also extended to Kimmy & Bear Clothing and Kimmy & Bear Space Design.
Kimmy & Bear is a space which rises above the clutter than can overwhelm you as a mother, and rather focus on the beauty of the mamahood experience. A space which inspires you – be it through nursery decor, a new clothing range, or a quick tip in the kitchen that will make your life a little easier. A space that focuses on style and beauty while carrying a babe on your hip. A space to share a glimpse into the lives of other mamas and mamas-to-be to be that may make you laugh out loud or even cry as you realise that we’re somehow connected through this journey we’re on. It is named after our parents whose grand children call them Kimmy and Bear.
Basically I am a huge lover of blogs and live up to all those Pinterest cliches of “wasting time on blogs”… my bookmark list is way longer than these but I thought I’d share 6 of my favourites and then a few of my local favourites too.
Cup of Jo
I started reading Cup of Jo before Joanna had kids and she was simply a New York blogger. Now, after many years of reading her blog, I feel like I know her so well and have witnessed her life evolve as she has had kids etc. I love her “normal” approach to life, how nothing is too fancy or unreachable – she is just a mom, living her life and blogging which is really relatable. I love her Friday links and her Motherhood posts the most.
Wild and Grizzly
Lori describes her blog as “where mama meets cool” and that is exactly what it is – i love her beautiful design aesthetic and am totally inspired by her interiors. I came across Lori’s blog while searching for travel guides with kids and I love her approach to taking trips with her babe in tow.
The Glitter Guide
Definitely one of my favourite online destinations – I basically wish I was Glitter Guide. I love their amazing parties/entreating section and interiors, they cool style curations and now I never miss any posts under the Motherhood category.
Bare Foot Blonde by Amber Fillerup
Although Amber’s writing isn’t great I cannot get enough of her beautiful pics of her and her babes, on this blog I mostly just look at the pics. When I don’t have that much time I just check Amber’s instagram which is great too. I can’t get over this mama’s outfits!
Oh my word, have you been onto Lovely Indeed? Basically the best DIYs ever and those who know me know I love a good DIY. Plus even if you aren’t into doing it yourself, this blog is so pretty, I just love it.
Probably my favourite blog at the moment, I love how these woman share what’s going on in their life as mamas and are totally honest about it. I adore their “book” posts which have resulted in me having the longest book wish list for my babe saved to Amazon. For me these women are the ultimate mom bloggers and I have a total mama crush on them.
And these are my local favourites:
I Heart Your Outfit
For the Beauty of It
These writers of these blogs of the first blogger friends I made, in other words we became friends online before real life. How crazy is that? I enjoy following blog of people I actually know – keeping up to date with their lives and what they are up to. We all work in the magazine industry so it’s great to know what they are up to and keep up to date with whats happening in the media world (at events etc) especially since I have taken a step back etc. Now if course I feel like I know their kids and we always try and meet up when we are in each others city.
On the local front I also love Miss Moss for her ultra cool design aesthetic and her super cool playlists.
What a lovely list! Thanks so much for sharing your faves Cheska. I’ll be diving into a few of these favourites frequently from now on!
