Introducing Brickland

As the mom of an almost 6 year old boy there is one toy that we can never have enough of…. Lego ® type blocks! The opportunities they present for play, imagination and ingenuity are endless however the price dictates that we have to wait for birthdays or Christmas before we can indulge his passion. Not any more!! I am so excited about this new discovery that I just have to share it with all my fellow moms and grandparents (and maybe even adult men who have not outgrown their childhood yet – I’m thinking of my brother…) Brickland is a new online store that stocks a Korean Lego ® equivalent called Oxford and I recently had the chance to try it out – well my son and I did!

Brickland stocks a wide variety of Lego®-type toys from Rescue sets to Medical Centers to Airports and even a Military set! All for a much more reasonable price (about 60% of the price of the well known brand). So you must be thinking – what is the catch?? Right. I know you skeptical moms don’t want to waste your money on more cheap plastic!! You are not alone… But you won’t be with this great product. The quality of the plastic is equivalent to the well known brand and is made from the same ABS plastics. It is far better than the cheap Chinese equivalent available at various Chinese and toy factory shops. As testament to the high quality of Oxford toy brick sets, Hasbro (an American multinational toy and board game company- one of the largest toy makers in the world) have commissioned Oxford to produce its new range of toy brick sets (their Lego ® equivalent)! To learn more about the Oxford brand and read some product reviews of their plastic toy bricks, please visit the ‘About Oxford’ section of the BrickLand website.

Oxford is a Korean brand, which distinguishes itself by its competitive pricing, high quality and innovative designs.

Another real bonus of the Oxford product is that the instruction manuals are FAR clearer than any others I’ve seen. Usually I buy the age appropriate set for my son and end up being nagged endlessly to come and help him which inevitably means I end up making the whole thing and then he plays with it – which is defeating the purpose really…. This time the nagging started but I resisted and showed him that these instructions guide you with showing you which pieces you need for each step! A great help. I then let him get on with it and in no time had he made his first set – the difference to his sense of accomplishment and pride was amazing! This is a real benefit particularly for young or first time builders.

Another real bonus is that these blocks are all compatible with the Lego ® brand and once you have made the full set in the box you can develop a whole range of new designs with ALL your blocks!

As I mentioned the real win for me was the price – the kits available from Brickland all retail at about 50-60% of the price of Lego ®. We tried out the Rescue Kit which I picture here and this cost R160 and includes a rescue van, rescue car, a helicopter (the most popular!!) and 4 mini figures.

Kathryn is a South African lifestyle blogger and mom of 2 who has been blogging daily for over 9 years! She writes about travel, health, beauty, fashion, decor and family... but not food (unless it's food she's eaten made by someone else) as she is a hopeless cook. She only wakes up early for 2 things... a red-eye flight to somewhere exotic and early morning game drives. She has just finished an extensive home renovation and would prefer to never see another box again. She's never met a chocolate or glass of bubbles that she didn't like!

  1. My almost 5 and half year old is a Lego fan as well! Who isn’t?! This is good to know, thank you.

  2. Thank you so much for telling us about this site and for the discount. I have two boys who are mad about Lego-type things as well as five nieces and nephews who are construction-toy crazy. I’ve just ordered two kits from Brickland and await their new stock eagerly. (trying to be organised with getting Christmas presents early when there are good deals!) Thanks!

  3. I have agents who sell a range of products directly and at markets. We have seen the lego compatible range and would like to find out how we could get hold of a range in Cape Town
