Boudoir Photo Shoots

Recently I ran a competition with Dee During Photography that offered Becoming you readers the chance to win a photo shoot of their choice including a Boudoir Photo Shoot. This proved to be quite a popular option amongst readers but also raised a few questions so I thought I would allow Dee to explain exactly what a Boudoir Photo Shoot is and tackle a few more of the ?’s raised! Take it away Dee….

What is a Boudoir Photo Shoot?
A Boudoir Photo Shoot can be any number of different things; it can be nicely naughty, it can be a bit more erotic, it can be something you do entirely for yourself or as a special and innovative gift for the person you love. Fun and frivolous or sexy with just a bit of steam – you decide!

Top Tips for Selecting your Boudoir Photographer
Browse the net to look at different Boudoir Photographer websites and get a feel for their style
Give a few of them a call and check whether you have a good rapport on the phone. Arrange a meeting with the photographer and see how you connect with them. It’s important to feel relaxed in a Boudoir session! After all – not many of us are used to taking off our clothes in front of the camera!

Where does the shoot take place?
Again – your choice; either in the comfort of your own home or a guest house / boutique hotel you have booked. A fun alternative is a location like a forest, a beach or a vineyard. Obviously as I am Cape Town based I am only able to photograph you if you are based in Cape Town and surrounds!

What do I need to bring with me?
A Boudoir Photo Shoot can be as simple or as extravagant as you choose – either just yourself and some pretty underwear and jeans or a whole suitcase of sexy stuff to play around with. I keep some props with me in case but it always better to have your own personal style.

Who does my make-up/ hair?
This is again your choice. I can organize both a make-up artist /hair stylist on set (at an additional cost) or you can do your own beforehand and arrive styled and ready.

How long is the session and what does it involve?
A Boudoir session normally lasts about 2 hours. My fee however, is not restricted to 2 hours on the nose. I don’t like to rush things so if we run overtime, its not an issue. I spend some time beforehand getting some reference shots together. I may even send these to you to have a look at. If there are styles that you enjoy – by all means send them along and we can have a look at how to achieve them. We will try various positions and lighting options using props ie. a bed, bath, couch or some posed shots with a backdrop. I like to see where you feel comfortable and what works best for each individual.

Post-processing of my photographs – what does this mean?
I use both Lightroom and Photoshop to process my images. This involves tweaking exposure, white balance etc as well as smoothing of wrinkles, whitening teeth, making eyes stand out. How much processing is done – is totally up to you. My personal style is NOT to make someone look totally photoshopped. I firmly believe everyone has something beautiful about them and with my Boudoir shoots – this is what I try to bring out and to highlight. Because my style is more natural I am happy to do a certain amount of touching up but I don’t like a fake image.

What happens next?
I load your images up to Dropbox in low res. You can then make your selection (depending on the package we have agreed upon) and I will supply these in hi res format on a flash or DVD. If you have ordered an album then we go through the selection process from there. Either I design the whole thing and present it to you (fun surprise) or you can play as much or as little of a role in deciding on what goes in to the album. Again – this all depends on the package you’ve put together. Some people only want prints.

What do you charge and do you offer discounts?
My Boudoir shoot start at R1 800.00. I will offer any person a 30% off your Boudoir Package if you book another photo shoot with me.

How do I book you?
Send me an email on OR call 0794969761 to discuss your requirements or dive right in and book yourself a shoot. It will make you feel fantastic !!! If you don’t believe me – go to my website homepage and read the testimonials for yourself:
