Blog Boot Camp #3 Review

The morning of Saturday 21 February saw Blog Boot Camp take place in Cape Town and once again I’m happy to report that it was a great success. After months of planning and preparing everything came together really well!

This was the third time Lana from Lanaloustyle and myself have hosted this blogging workshop and once again we moved the venue! This time saw 35 bloggers gather in a little hall located in a quiet Rondebosch street. The size and light of the space meant it was perfect for our needs and plenty of networking and mingling could take place inside and out! We’re hoping to stick with this spot in the future!

The workshop started officially at 9am but from 8:30am attendees were already arriving, eager to connect with like-minded people over a cup of coffee! Then it was time to sit down and start with the morning.

Each blogger introduced themselves and their blog so that everyone in the room could identify people they might like to chat to at the tea break and then it was on to the content…. First up was Lana with her inspiring talk about branding and design elements for blogging, then I covered some blogging basics as well as SEO and marketing.

Then it was time for tea…. fabulous food from Limonlu Catering and decadent cupcakes from Bullcakes and Cupdogs Cupcakes plus coffee from Seattle Coffee Company meant that no one went hungry (or fell asleep!)

After a few giveaways it was time for the next session which covered topics such as the technical side of WordPress, Social Media and Monetizing. And all too quickly the morning was over!

And despite the nerves that can come along with organizing an event and talking to a hall of faces it was actually so much fun! I had a blast – despite the remnants of a lingering cold. I loved meeting all the up-and-coming bloggers and small business owners looking to ramp up their businesses through blogging and I can’t wait to see what they come up with in the coming months!

If you feel like you missed out this time and would like to plan towards joining us next time please make a note that we’re aiming to hold our next Blog Boot Camp workshop in June 2015! Be sure to sign up to our newsletter and “like” our Blog Boot Camp Facebook page to keep updated. We like to use the page to share blogging and WordPress tips and our aim is to create a supportive blogging community where we can ask questions and learn, so do join us!

Here are some photos to give you an idea of the morning, all taken by Anthea K (a previous attendee!)

Kathryn Rossiter

Kathryn is a South African lifestyle blogger and mom of 2 who has been blogging daily for over 9 years! She writes about travel, health, beauty, fashion, decor and family... but not food (unless it's food she's eaten made by someone else) as she is a hopeless cook. She only wakes up early for 2 things... a red-eye flight to somewhere exotic and early morning game drives. She has just finished an extensive home renovation and would prefer to never see another box again. She's never met a chocolate or glass of bubbles that she didn't like!
