I have a lot of hair. And I’m not always quite sure how to maintain it. It frizzes, bushes, dries out. I mostly look quite unkept… except after a visit to see celebrity hairdresser extraordinaire, David Gillson!
After a few hours in David’s care I’m FAR more ready to face the world. I just wish I had him on speed dial for my every hair care. Alas, David is only in Cape Town (at Carlton Constantia Village) every few weeks. But when he is in town I rarely miss an appointment!
David Gillson is a master of hair colour and after a few visits I plucked up the courage to let him experiment with my hair a bit.
For years I’ve gone with “the usual” – honey blonde highlights.
A few weeks ago I took a risk and went for something different (and fortunately only semi-permanent!) I opted to let David loose and requested he try out a Rose Gold tint. He was only too thrilled to try something new on my mane…. and let’s be honest it has many mane-like qualities….
That is too terrifying.
Anyway I didn’t realise that asking for a rose gold tint meant they first dyed my roots and then added the toner to my hair. I won’t lie, initially I was traumatised by the dark brown colour!
And after the first wash I was even more worried. It looks WAY too dark for my liking.
I decided to just go with it and trust the process… and David! Because I do trust David. He’s been in the hair business for years, has a stellar list of clients and even recently opened a hair salon in Belgravia, London which he visits every few weeks – doing the rounds now between Joburg, Cape Town and London to service all his loyal clients.
Keratherapy Keratin Smoothing Colour & Lock Smoothing Treatment
After my wash, it was time to experience the Keratherapy Keratin Smoothing Colour & Lock Smoothing Treatment, exclusive to Carlton Hair.
Now as I’ve mentioned the texture of my hair is rather “frazzled” for want of a better description.
The truth is I don’t do much with my hair aside from washing it every second day and applying Moroccanoil to the lengths and ends while it’s still wet. I let it air dry and do its own thing. I get quite hot, so I prefer to avoid the hair dryer and this means it’s often left wet and tied up into a messy bun which can leave it looking frizzy and lacklustre.
Enter Keratherapy. The process itself is similar to a traditional Brazilian, but instead of straightening the hair, this treatment smoothes it without straightening, all the while nourishing and reviving tired, damaged hair.
The formula contains a trio of oils – Tamanu, Argan and Jojoba – that work together with rosemary leaf extract to give you silky, shiny hair.
The process is relatively quick and easy and starts with a special shampoo to prep the hair.
Your hair is then dried to about 50% and then the formula is sprayed on in sections before being blow dried until totally dry and then flat ironed to lock in the actives.
You have to not touch it for 24 hours, but after which you can carry on with your usual hair cleansing and styling routine.
My hair loved this treatment and so did I. The frizz is far less while my natural waves are more defined than usual. This treatment also substantially reduces your own hair-drying time.
