Latest for Lips

Lips seem to be making a bit statement this season and my desk is full to overflowing with samples of the latest lip products – from lipsticks, to lipglosses and lacquers to lip balms! So I thought I’d share a few of my favourites with you here….

Lipsticks are huge this winter with every beauty house bringing out the most amazing formulas and colours… something to suit everyone! I must admit to being a bit lipstick fan, I love the little pop of colour they give that can make your whole face light up and ultimately affect how you feel about yourself and the confidence with which you face the day! Who says a lipstick can’t change you life. I totally believe it can. And here are a few new ones that you need to know about…

Maybelline Superstay 14hr Lipstick Megawatt

This range of matte effect Superstay Lipsticks delivers high voltage colour to make statement bold lips that last and last – you’ll definitely need to remove this lipstick with makeup remover as nothing else will make it budge!

What I loved: The beautiful bright colours  – Neon Pink, Burst of Coral, Red Rays and Flash of Fuschia are all divine and sure to make me smile on a cold and dreary winter day!

What I loathed: The lipsticks are matte and although this is a huge trend for winter makeup I found the formula felt very dry on my lips and seemed to settle into the lines of my lips making them look old!

L’oreal Color Riche Lipstick

To celebrate 30 years of the Color Riche lipstick this May, L’oreal are launching 30 new shades in this range, including both satin and matte finish lipsticks. There are some absolutely amazing super-pigmented shades in a variety of hues from pretty pinks to beautiful berries. The formula also contains plant-based oils to care for the lips.

What I loved: I tried the Erotique Matte Lipstick and loved the natural, every day pink, plus I found the matte formula wasn’t too drying on my lips. The range of colours is also incredible. Something for everyone.

What I loathed: Nothing major however I would recommend using a lipliner with this product for a more precise lip line as I found the colour tended to “leak” a little bit.

Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Colour Moisturising Lipstick

This luxurious new line of lipsticks from Elizabeth Arden are unique in that they are beautifully moisturising matte lipsticks – almost unheard of! A gorgeous array of colours that are super soft on your lips and totally comfortable to wear while giving a modern, matte finish.

What I loved: The pretty feminine colour selection including my favourites: Nude, Barely There, Rose Petal, Pink Pucker & Coral Crush. Plus the super subtle and sexy matte effect which feels luxurious on the lips. And of course the gorgeous gold lipstick case looks and feels really beautiful too!

What I loathed: Not as long lasting as some of the other matte formulas I tried but the other positives outweigh this in my opinion.

Maybelline Colorshow Lip Color Lipstick

Another range of lipsticks from Maybelline that come in highly pigmented shades for a bright, bold lip, this creamy lippie stays put for 4 – 5 hours and is much more moisturising that the Megawatt mentioned above.

What I loved: The gorgeous light & creamy texture feels lovely on the lips – almost like a lip balm and it doesn’t settle in lines or smudge very easily either! The price is pretty awesome too!

What I loathed: Nothing

Maybelline Bold Matte by Color Sensational

As I mentioned earlier Matte lips are really big this winter and here is more proof… a new range of Bold Matte from Maybelline. A powderless formula that delivers the most vibrant matte shades with a smooth, moisturised finish thanks to the inclusion of honey nectar in the formula. This range is bold and bright.

Mat 1 is Peach; Mat 2 is Bright Coral; Mat 4 is Light Red; Mat 5 is Bright Red; Mat 6 is Deep Red and Mat 7 is Nude.

As you can see the vivid colours in the range are all loud and proud.

What I loved: The youthful, vibrant colours that are sure to brighten your day.

What I loathed: The bright red packaging of the lipsticks can cause confusion leading you to believe that all the lipsticks are red when in fact they are a variety of colours as listed above. Also this casing feels a bit cheap and flimsy – like it might break or come off in my makeup bag (and wreak havoc) after being used too often.

Almay Smart Shade Butter Kiss Lipstick

This smart tinted lip butter from Almay takes the guesswork out of finding your perfect shade by creating shades that complement your skin tone. There are 12 shades and each is broken into three skin tone groups of light, light medium and dark. Each selection includes a berry, pink, nude and a red that would be most suitable for your skin tone. I was sent two of the nudes to try out: Nude Light and Nude Light Medium.

What I loved: This product is super moisturising and the nudes I tried make for great day time lip colours. No mirror required. The texture is also super light and doesn’t feel like a normal lipstick but rather a lipbalm – ideal for those of you who are not fans of wearing too much makeup.

What I loathed: I’m not a huge fan of the glittery bits that seem to come with the colours offering “sheer” coverage.

Revlon Ultra HD Lipstick

This new range of lipsticks from Revlon promises to deliver true colour clarity without the heavy feel using a revolutionary wax-free gel technology. Available in 20 high definition shades, named for the flowers that bear the same colour, these are beautiful, bold lipsticks! The texture of this product is smooth and silky – almost like butter on your lips. Subtly scented and super light this is a modern lip product that delivers.

What I loved: The gorgeous vanilla and mango scent, the smooth application and the HD colours and their lovely names. There are 10 basic shades and 10 limited edition shades. Look out for Marigold (a bright coral), Rose (a light pink) and Dahlia (a deep red brown).

What I loathed: The lipsticks don’t twist all the way down into the tube which means that you can damage the product if you’re not very careful. I managed to slice a chunk off one of mine on the first try!

Essence XXXL Longlasting lipgloss

Have you ever heard of a Matte effect lipgloss? Well this is it! If you love lipgloss but want to try they matte trend then this velvety-matt, long-lasting lipgloss is for you! A light mousse-like texture that lasts on your lips for several hours and provides a matte appearance without drying them out.

What I loved: The creamy texture and ease of application with the flat brush. And obviously essence always does really well on their price point.

What I loathed: I’m not sure if I’m ready for matte lipgloss – the two just don’t seem a good combo. Also this tasted a bit odd and made the back of my throat tingle???

Maybelline Colorsensational Shine Gloss

This lipgloss offers a clean shine thanks to its 100% wax-free gloss and a creamy feel courtesy of nourishing honey nectar.

What I loved: I tried Coffee, a pretty nude with a hint of shimmer that is great for everyday wear.

What I loathed: There’s not escaping the slightly sticky texture of lipgloss and the fact that this transfers quickly when drinking and eating. I think at the moment I’m just having more of a lipstick crush…

Revlon Ultra HD Lip Lacquer

Get high-impact shine and a bouncy, lightweight feel with amazing colour payoff from these new lip lacquers, available in stores in 15 HD shades. The shiny rich colour instantly transforms lips into a tempting pout! Great texture, bold pigment, long wear and a lustrous shine make this a beautiful lipgloss.

What I loved: Now this is a lacquer! Wow the colour pigment in these products is amazing and I love the deep luscious shine and bold colour. Definitely the product for making a statement or wearing for a night on the town – you’re sure to turn heads! My fave is the Strawberry Topaz.

What I loathed: The brush applicator makes applying this product a bit tricksy. You definitely need to take your time with this one as any mistake will be glaringly obvious!

L’oreal Color Riche Extrodinaire

I’ve said it before but this is still my favourite lipgloss product. It has a lovely smooth, non-sticky texture – a mix between a lipstick and a lipgloss. It features luxurious micro-oils that infuse each pigment for ultimate colour, care and shine. The unique soft-touch applicator allows for a silky-smooth, gliding application and the news that there are now even more gorgeous colours to choose from fills me with happiness. I must have them all!

What I loved: I love the subtle scent, pretty colours and gorgeous shine.

What I loathed: Not much!
