Beauty Review: Avene Cleanance Comedomed and Cleansing Gel for blemish-prone skin

I have a teenager in the house… and with that comes MANY changes… for our family, myself and, mostly, him!

One of these has been the appearance of skin issues – namely, the terrifying trio of pimples, blackheads and acne!

Fortunately, to coincide with the arrival of this frustrating skin situation, Avène announced the launch of a new breakthrough for blemish-prone skin, Cleanance Comedomed.

Clinically proven to reduce blemishes (spots and blackheads) from 7 days and to limit the recurrence of new blemishes with continued use, the product contains a high concentration of 25% ComedoclastinTM  which acts on both existing and future blemishes to effectively reduce sebum, spots and blackheads.

This product is a pleasant gel-cream, that is non-greasy, fast absorbing with hydrating and mattifying properties and a texture that even teens enjoy. (Teens are tough customers!)

His feedback is that “it’s nice”! He said it has helped to keep a flare up of acne from getting out of control. He approves of the smell and he likes the smooth texture that is not sticky.

The product is applied with 1 pump, both morning & evening, to the entire face and can also be applied to the chest area with an additional pump.

The product is suitable for use from age 12+ years and has excellent skin tolerance even with those who struggle with sensitive skin thanks to the fact that it is fragrance-free.

This product is now available in Dischem, Clicks and online at for R309.00 for a 30ml pump bottle.

Along with the Cleanance Comedomed product my son has also been using the following products:

This cleansing gel gently removes impurities from the skin and can be used on the face and body.

It has mattifying properties thanks to the ingredient known as Monolaurin (patent pending) which regulates the hyperproduction of sebum, while Avène Thermal Spring Water provides soothing and anti-irritating benefits helping to leave the skin clean, clear and refreshed.

My son approves of the packaging as it is convenient and he can leave it in the shower. He also approves of the texture and smell.

This product is now available in Dischem, Clicks and online at for R199.00 for a 200ml bottle.

By his own admission he hasn’t been using the range every day (despite my nagging – teenage boys!! argh) but he has committed to using it more frequently as he is (slowly) starting to be more aware of his skin issues and how they impact his self-confidence and might finally be realising that taking care of his skin might actually be a good idea! Fortunately he has seen the impact these products have made and is planning to continue using them! And that is probably the most glowing review a teenager can give!
