Battle of the… Concealers

The Best Concealers in South Africa

Welcome to my concealer showdown where I’ll be taking you through a few of my favourite concealers, across multiple brands with different consistencies and finishes.

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer

Kicking off with Maybelline Fit Me (R110) which is available in 12 shades from pale to dark and in multiple undertones. Maybelline Fit Me Concealer offers opaque medium buildable coverage in a creamy formula that isn’t too thick or too thin – it’s just right.

The range is so broad with multiple undertones which is amazing for someone as pale as I am, usually pale concealers can be very pink which are great for under eye concealing but not so great for blemishes as it tends to accentuate them further.

I think one of the reasons Maybelline Fit Me is so easy to use is because of the doe-foot applicator; it’s not too spongy so it allows you to have more control over how much product you’re applying. Which makes it easy to use as under eye, pimple concealing or contouring as it doesn’t over apply the product.

The concealer dries semi matt so depending on the day and how my skin is feeling I can sometimes go without powdering – yip even under my eyes, which is very rare when it comes to concealer.

Elizabeth Arden Stroke of Perfection

Next up Elizabeth Arden’s Stroke of Perfection concealer (R299) the most creamy and smooth yet high coverage concealer I have ever tried, I think the game changer with the stroke of perfection concealer is the consistency usually when it comes to creamy concealers they’re usually quite thin and offer a very sheer coverage.

When it comes to high coverage concealer they’re usually thick and quite hard to blend in to look like skin and that is exactly where stroke of perfection comes in – a smooth, creamy full coverage concealer that can be used under the eyes or for blemishes, blends seamlessly and lasts all day.

The applicator is a twist up with a slanted tip which makes it very easy to glide onto the skin, when it comes to blemishes it’s so easy to pick up a little with a brush to spot conceal or even your finger top. It’s also a great in the handbag concealer for touch ups. The only downside is that the shade range isn’t very large with only x4 shades.

Mii Cosmetics Double Delight Concealer and Serum

Lastly we have the Mii Cosmetics Double Delight Concealer and Serum (R545) this is probably the most unique concealer I have ever tried like it says in the name the Mii Cosmetics concealer is a double duo where one end offers a classic concealer stick in the shape of a lipstick bullet and the other end offers a serum for gentle highlighting with a doe foot applicator.

The idea is to use the concealer to blend away any imperfections where the concealer is used to balance moisture and is said to stimulate circulation to reduce under eye circles and puffiness.

I really felt like this concealer was part of skincare with subtle yet buildable coverage it just offers a very skin like finish. I wouldn’t use this to cover up blemishes as I didn’t find it counter acted the redish tone of a pimple, but under eye it works amazingly at neutralizing and brightening whilst allowing the under eye skin to still move and look fresh. Don’t let the serum scare you under your eyes, if you’re worried about creasing just pop a bit of powder and you’re good to go. Plus the Mii Cosmetics Concealer is a great handbag essential for freshening up the face.
