April Specials at Librisa Spa at the Mount Nelson Hotel

Last weekend I was invited to pop in at the Librisa Spa at the Mount Nelson Hotel to experience one of their April Promotions to feature in my Spa Reviews series.

It wasn’t an invite I was going to miss… so even when I woke up with a sore throat, aching body and dripping nose, I dragged myself there in the hope that a massage treatment might make me feel better!

Situated in Cape Town’s iconic Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel, Librisa Spa is a luxury day spa offering a full bouquet of treatments for all ages in an urban sanctuary setting.

One of their current April promotions is for a Bring a Friend indulgence where you can book any two 60-minute massages for R990. My husband is well deserving of a spoil after all the support and encouragement he offers me behind-the-scenes on my blog, so he was a natural choice for this special treat!

The alternative to this April special is known as Soul Time and is a choice of two 60 minute treatments – a Swedish massage, a classic facial, a manicure or a pedicure for R950.

Arriving at the Mount Nelson Hotel feels like a treat in itself. Driving through the iconic arches at the main entrance and up the palm-lined driveway you are transported to another place immediately aiding your stress levels and making time take on a slower pace!

Having been informed there was a Kids Club facility for use by visitors to the spa we had brought our two along and they were very excited to be at the “fanciest hotel in Cape Town” After dropping them off at the Kids Club (aimed at kids aged 3 – 12 but recommended for kids aged 3 – 7), we made our way to the spa.

An incredibly peaceful place, Librisa Spa is a day space with a serene atmosphere.

We donned our robes and made our way, via the open walkway (heated in winter), to the main building which houses the treatment rooms, to wait in the glass conservatory while sipping on a cup of herbal tea and enjoying a healthy snack!

This bright space is flooded with sunlight and surrounded by greenery with a tinkling waterfall feature that adds a soothing soundtrack to the spa.

Just this moment of pause was soothing to the soul and our stress-levels melted away….

Guided by our therapists we weaved our way through the opulent common areas of the spa up to the second level of the spa, catching a glimpse of a few of the eight luxurious rooms on our way, and finally finding ourselves in our double suite… a room for two designed to promote complete relaxation!

Each of the eight enormous treatment rooms, each with their own spacious bathrooms, are reminiscent of luxurious five star hotel suite. There is also an enclosed manicure room and a separate pedicure room with handmade pewter bowls stamped with the Librisa flower logo.

Our 60-minute massage was pure heaven on earth and certainly one of the best either of us have enjoyed. Our therapists were caring, careful and quietly went about their business allowing us to doze off! My husband even hugged his therapist afterwards (probably slightly inappropriate, but a sign of his complete joy!)

After our treatment we would our way back down the sweeping staircase through the exquisite spa spaces that make you feel like you are in a stately home. This is a spa of timeless elegance with luxurious finishes of hand painted silk wallpaper, chandeliers, hand-blown glass objets d’arts…

Not in a hurry to leave we both retired to our changing areas with the plan to enjoy a few more of the Spa’s facilities for a half hour before fetching the kids!

The extra facilities at Librisa Spa include a Finnish sauna and a plunge pool (sadly the steam room is out of action at present due to water restrictions) I disrobed and hopped into the sauna for a private session while enjoying a view of the courtyard.

Then it was back to reality and we had to pick up the kids from the Kids Club, unfortunately they hadn’t had as much fun as us as the Kids Club is geared more towards youngers kids but we fed back their constructive feedback to the Spa Manager and she was more than willing to take it further up the management chain to see how best they can service their spa and hotel guests. A Spa Manager who is open and eager for constructive feedback is always a good sign as that shows that this is not a spa content to simply rest on its laurels of it’s location and name! I’ll certainly be back!
