A Stellenbosch weekend itinerary

Hankering for a holiday in Europe? Well, you can find a small slice of it right here in SA! The beautiful oak-lined streets of Stellenbosch are certainly more than reminiscent of a European capital, especially at this time of the year when the autumnal colours add a layer of charm to the town.

I recently spent a weekend in the wine capital of South Africa and, aside from being reminded about how much I enjoy spending time in this picturesque place, I also discovered a few NEW exciting activities to enjoy – perfect for including on a 2-day Stellenbosch weekend itinerary.

Most important when planning your weekend in Stellenbosch is to book centrally-located accommodation. To fully appreciate living in this pedestrian-friendly town, you need to stay within walking distance of the city centre. That way you can walk down to enjoy a coffee and croissant on a sidewalk cafe mid-morning or pop out to enjoy the Botanical Gardens after your afternoon snooze.

During my trip I was fortunate to stay at Evergreen Manor & Spa which is located in Murray Street right in the heart of Stellenbosch and only 2 min walk from the Stellenbosch University campus and Botanical Gardens and less than 5 min from the central main shops, art galleries and museums.

Part of Cape Country Routes, a leading group of owner operated and managed accommodation and activity establishments located on the scenic and historic routes in the Western and Eastern Cape, Evergreen Manor oozes character.

Built in 1904 Evergreen Manor & Spa, the spaces are made up of two elegantly restored Victorian houses that have an old world charm combined with every modern convenience such as underfloor heating in bathrooms, satellite TV, mini-bar, electronic safes and free Wifi.

The spacious guest rooms are individually decorated with fine period and antique furnishings that add to the romance and there is ample relaxation space next to the swimming pool. An intimate spa space that offers a range of wellness treatments by highly qualified therapists, using the world-renowned QMS Medicosmetics range of products.

The centre of the town is an easy walk from Evergreen and I loved browsing the many gorgeous boutiques and stopping in to enjoy a drink at one of the local eateries. There are so many incredible art galleries, museums and historical buildings to explore that one afternoon simply won’t be enough time! Don’t miss a visit to the Stellenbosch Botanical Garden or a walk along the Eerste Rivier either.

I loved staying in Evergreen for the convenience, but it was the warm hospitality that really made this accommodation stand out. From the owners to the reception desk to the waiting staff, everyone was wonderfully welcoming and ensured every need was met – before I knew about it!
