Spa Review: A Magical Massage at Mangwanani

Last weekend I had the pleasure of visiting the NEW Mangwanani Spa located at The Cullinan Hotel on the Foreshore in Cape Town.

The perfect place to leave the city behind and indulge in a range of therapeutic African wellness experiences.

Many moons ago I visited their spa located at Zewenwacht Wine Estate and still have great memories of my first ever hot stone massage so I didn’t skip a beat when booking my treatment….

An Izimanga Full Body Hot Stone Massage.

What followed was 60 minutes of pure relaxation! I zoned out all the busyness of life and allowed myself to be transported to another time and place! It wasn’t hard. As soon as you walk through the doors of the hotel you feel like you are in another world. Then you pass the pool area complete with holiday makers sunning themselves and sipping on cocktails and pretty soon you’re in the holiday spirit yourself!

A warm welcome at the spa entrance by the professional and friendly Mangwanani staff was followed by a few minutes of obligatory forms in the upstairs mani/ pedi area – a beautiful, spacious zone tastefully decorated in white with hues of blue – and then it was time for my treatment!

The cosy treatment room was again decorated with gorgeous white accessories and furnished with 2 massage beds, ideal for couples looking to enjoy a dual massage treatment. I hopped under the luxurious duvet and drifted off – due to the tranquil music and twinkling lights above – even before my therapist arrived! And she was so lovely, with the perfect about of massage pressure!

Mangwanani massage treatments are infused with traditional African healing rituals and contemporary wellness therapies that nurture body, mind and spirit.

After 60 mins it was all over and I was about ready for bed and definitely not in a rush to leave! Eventually I dressed and went through to the communal area to enjoy a glass of water and a few of the sweet treats on offer before heading back to reality.

I love the Mangwanani Spa concept of uplifting rural South African woman by providing training and accredited qualifications to produce some of the finest qualified therapists available. These women are able to completely change their lives with a “hand up” instead of a “hand out”. Such a special spa!

What a treat, and with their amazing prices I will definitely be heading back to enjoy a Head, Neck and Shoulder massage soon! Click here for the Mangwanani price list.

Worth noting is that massages, manicures and pedicures can also be enjoyed around the pool area, reclining on a lounger and sipping on herbal tea or a glass of bubbly and hotel guests can book treatments in the privacy of their rooms.

  1. Great to be able to get massages! It’s good to know where to get a good Massage while travelling. I’ll bookmark this. One day hope to come and experience it there ❤
