Last Sunday I was invited to join a group of bloggers for a press trip to experience Old Mac Daddy’s new #SecretSunday Special. To make the most of our trip to this beautiful part of the world the team who arranged the trip planned for each blogger to experience a little bit more about the Elgin valley at various restaurants and wine farms in the area…
I was very fortunate to have been allocated Fresh at Paul Cluver Wine Estate as my lunch venue. I had opted to enjoy my little getaway with a close girl friend and this proved to be the perfect spot for a lovely long catch up on the spring sunshine! Our little table was beautifully located in the small garden outside with an amazing view over the vineyards with mountains in the background.
We were warmly welcomed by the host/ chef/ owner, Niki Hall-Jones, and she talked us through the small but amazing menu explaining the combinations of ingredients chosen for each meal – she clearly is very passionate about her food, with very good reason!
Many of the “signature dishes” are based on ingredients that grow in abundance in the vegetable garden – amongst many other things artichokes, figs, lemons, tomatoes, pomegranates, pears and apples.
From our starters of Pear & Gorgonzola Salad and Beetroot Soup through our Seafood Soup and My friend Ed’s favourite pie mains right to the last mouthful of Homemade Orange Icecream, all the food was simple but superb. This was outdoor country dining at it’s best, with fresh food picked from the farm beautifully presented and served full of interesting flavours!
We had a unforgettable afternoon at Fresh – an amazing hidden gem of restaurant that is well worth a visit.
Just remember to book in advance!!
