A lazy Sunday at the Mount Nelson Hotel

As a blogger I am often treated to incredible experiences… and, while they are always lovely, they can often feel lonely as I’m usually on my own (or surrounded by strangers)

Recently I was invited to visit the gorgeous Mount Nelson Hotel to enjoy a spa treatment and a buffet lunch with a Plus One!

My husband would have been a natural fit, however that involves a few more arrangements for childcare, and so this time around I decided to invite one of my besties instead! It proved to be a delight! Uninterrupted, quality time with a girl friend is soul food – and so often overlooked in the busy pace of life with kids, jobs, husbands and commitments. Weeks whizz by and weekends can pass in a flash and before you know if you haven’t had coffee with someone you call a friend in over 6 months! Yes, you may have seen them in passing at the school gate, or even had their family round for a braai. But when last did you get a chance to have a real heart-to-heart hour long conversation to find out how they REALLY are?

This amazing day at the Mount Nelson was the perfect way to connect and relax at the same time!

We arrived a bit earlier than our scheduled spa appointment at the Librisa Spa and headed to the changing rooms to don our robes, before removing them at the sauna where we chilled out for 20 mins in the heat and then plunged into the freezing cold outdoor plunge pool!

Then it was time for our “couples” massage. Our therapists were angels from above! They washed our feet first and then wrapped us up in our towels before massaging our weary bones for an hour, gentle music whisking us away to dreamland.

Complete bliss ensued!

After our blissful beauty treatment in the sumptuous spa we slowly padded our way downstairs to the calming Conservatory relaxation area, surrounded by greenery and a soothing waterfall we lazed on the loungers sipping tea, eating a few snacks, paging through the latest international fashion mags and catching up on life. We could have stayed there all day!

Finally, we realised it was time to head across the lush lawns to the hotel where we had a lunch reservation at the poolside Oasis Restaurant.

Overlooking one of Cape Town’s most beautiful swimming pools, this Mount Nelson restaurant is open to the public. We visited on a gloriously blue-skied summer day and the pool area was very inviting indeed! But then again so was the Sunday lunch spread inside!

Sitting on the terrace we had the best of both – a beautiful view of the sunshine, access to the delicious food on offer at the buffet and the jazzy vibes of the live band a few steps from our table!

It was the perfect place for a long, lazy lunch with a girl friend (or a few!)

Sunday lunch has never been this good. There was a spread of delicious food on offer from the full carvery buffet – incredible salads, tasty seafood and delicious desserts were all on offer and everything was beautifully presented and deliciously tasty! I won’t mention here how many times I headed back to the buffet – let’s just say I certainly got more value than the per person price!

The Sunday buffet at The Oasis Restaurant costs R495 on a summer special until the end of April 2019. The restaurant is also offering a two-course lunch from an a la carte menu for R395 per person until the end of March 2019. This includes use of the swimming pool which is usually reserved for in-house hotel guests only!
