These are a few of my favourite things …

In the spirit of that classic musical number from one of my favourite movies I have put together a list of some of my favourite things….

Place…
Cape Town is definitely my favourite place and not only because of it’s amazing natural beauty and huge variety of things to do but also because it is my home town, where I met my husband, the place where my babies were born and where my extended family lives. I can’t imagine a better place really, can you?

Holiday…
For sure Italy! I have been lucky enough to visit Italy twice and adore the country. I can’t wait to return to make more memories, eat more food and take more photos. I have recently been publishing some of my photography of my travels in Italy in a series called Timeless Travels. I hope it inspires someone to book their dream holiday there – they won’t be disappointed. There is something for everyone – art, history, architecture, food, scenery, adventure, atmosphere, culture, wine, the Med, cobble streets, piazzas, pizza and limoncello.

Item in my closet…
I am only recently discovering fashion and what that means to me so I can’t say I have a wardrobe filled with fashion favourites… I’m just starting my collection 😉 That being said my tan leather boots have seen me through about 5 winters of daily wear which must give them first place in my closet!

Room in my home…
I love my lounge. It has a big window looking out onto the garden and a view of the mountain. In winter it is especially cosy at night when I laze on the couch under a blanket watching a great dvd series like Downton Abbey with the fire on! Since having kids I’ve learnt to embrace my own home and not always feel the need to be out. I now love having a balance to my social life and enjoy being at home whereas before I always wanted to be out seeing people and doing something.

Object in my home…
Since the arrival of my Le Creuset Buffet Casserole Cast Iron Cookware I can readily admit that my cooking interest has gone up a notch! It might have something to do with the beauty of the Caribbean Blue pot but it also has something to do with the fact that the cookware is so easy to use and clean and makes all food yummier…. Cooking has become less of a chore for me and after 10 years that is something to shout about (well my chef, I mean husband, thinks so!)

Food…
I love food so this is a very hard one…. I think my favourite would have to be my husbands homemade pizza. They are better than any restaurant I have been to… Butternut and Caramelised Onion, Biltong and Avo, Cranberry and Brie… yummy!

Guilty pleasure…
Oh this has to be chocolate – and if that is my only vice then I’m not sorry for overindulging at every opportunity! I adore good quality swiss or organic chocolate – milk or dark… but a box of Lindor truffles makes me happiest! There is always a good reason for chocolate!

Book…
I love a good book and try to read at least one a month – my book club keeps me disciplined because since I started blogging, reading seems to have fallen down my list of priorities… There are so many great ones that I really do want to read so I definitely do need to make more of an effort in this department!! A few books have stuck in my mind and impacted my way of thinking namely but it’s hard to pick a favourite tho! Maybe I’ll put my Top 10 Reccomended Reads into a separate post? Currently I’m reading The Dovekeepers by Alice Hoffman and really enjoying it.

Music album…
I’m going through a “woman vocalist” stage at the moment and my current rotation includes Adele, Birdy, Lady Antebellum, Taylor Swift, Diana Krall, Norah Jones. But my heart belongs to Madeleine Peyroux – I have almost all her albums and hope to get the latest one soon. As is often the case the first album you hear of an artist always has the best memories attached to it so I would say Careless Love is my favourite album. It gets played every time I feel like chilling out or when we have people round for supper. If you like jazzy, French type music you will love this as she is influenced by Edith Piaf, Billie Holiday and Leonard Cohen – her cover of his song “Dance me to the end of love” is great!

Movie…
I know this is going to make me super soppy but I do LOVE The Notebook. What’s not to like? Ryan Gosling, The American South setting, The 50’s, The soundtrack, costumes and the house, A great love story with a happy/ sad ending…. Every time I watch it I feel sad that it is over!

Piece of jewellery…
I would say my engagement ring but EVERYONE loves their engagement ring so that’s not anything new so instead I will say my newly acquired Kirsten Goss lifesaver necklace which you can wear with a variety of colourful pendants depending on your outfit or mood! It was a present for my 10th wedding anniversary from my love 😉

Job…
My favourite job is the one I am doing right now. They say you should find a job you would do even if you weren’t being paid and do that until you get paid so that is what I am doing. I am passionate about my blog and love writing and photography, having always had a love for magazines and a desire to work for one I think this is a good alternative while I do my other favourite, albeit exhausting, job – raising my kids!

Photo…
The latest pic of both my kids together is always my favourite!

Way to spend a day…
Heading off on an adventure with my little family on a day trip to a place we have never been before. Enjoying a delicious lunch in the sun followed by a nap. That is perfection!

I did try very hard to pick only my favourite favourite for each topic – much harder than you can imagine! I hope you enjoy this little insight into what I love and what makes me, me! And if not one else is interested maybe it will be something for my children to look over one day should they ever want to know what I loved in 2013 😉

Kathryn is a South African lifestyle blogger and mom of 2 who has been blogging daily for over 9 years! She writes about travel, health, beauty, fashion, decor and family... but not food (unless it's food she's eaten made by someone else) as she is a hopeless cook. She only wakes up early for 2 things... a red-eye flight to somewhere exotic and early morning game drives. She has just finished an extensive home renovation and would prefer to never see another box again. She's never met a chocolate or glass of bubbles that she didn't like!
