My 5 Favourite Finds for October

Right so what were my 5 favourite finds for the month of October?? I’m sure you’ve been waiting patiently for the list for the past 4 months 😉 Haha

Without any more delays let’s get on with it…

1. Bionike skincare

Bionike is an Italian skin care brand which is new to me but I’ve been pleasantly surprised by it. I featured their sunscreen in my Battle of the Sunscreens article towards the end of last year and I have now been using their Defence Gentle Milk Cleanser for dry and very dry sensitive skin and their Defence Hydra5 Booster Intensive Moisturising Fluid for sensitive and intolerant skin. The products in this range are developed for those with very sensitive skin have been tested for high tolerability, safety and effectiveness and are highlighted by being 100% preservative, gluten and fragrance free and have also been nickle tested. This helps to ensure that the products do not irritate the skin but instead help to heal it. The products are  formulated with selected raw materials, and offer targeted products for cleansing, hydration, protection and treatment of localised skin blemishes. I found the milky cleanser was great for my rather dry, dehydrated skin and I’m sold that I need to be using this form of cleanser from now on – no more foaming face wash or gel cleansers for me… I’m getting old!!

The Hydra Booster is almost like a light serum or gel  in it’s consistency and is quite different to the usual moisturising cream I am used to but it felt refreshing and was absorbed quickly leaving my skin soft and supple and left it feeling moisturized throughout the day. It contains Hyaluronic acid in high concentrations and in 5 active forms that protect the skin from free-radical damage and early signs of ageing as well as properties that help to diffuse light evenly leaving the face looking smoother and more radiant! Bionike is available to purchase at Dischem stores nationwide.

2. MAC online store

I’m a huge fan of MAC makeup – the quality and colours available especially when it comes to eyeshadows are amazing which is why I was really pleased to hear that they have recently opened up a new MAC online store! (My husband was less pleased!) The site is the exclusive online stockist of MAC cosmetics in South Africa which makes it a great spot for those who don’t live near to a main city centre or who just don’t have the time to browse the malls but want to reorder their fave products. On the site you will find info about their latest collections plus if you sign up to the newsletter you will get sneak peeks and special offers! All the top products you know and love are available such as Prep n Prime, Fix+ and Strobe Cream as well as the amazing tools and brushes. You can also take a look at various videos uploaded by the MAC Makeup Artists from around the world to get you inspired to try something new. After a browse around the site I limited my selection to two products I was needed to add to my MAC collection and went with Peaches blusher (R220)  as I’m loving the coral/ peachy look for summery sun-kissed cheeks and Expensive Pink (R180) eyeshadow to complement my blue eyes. Other eyeshadow colours on my must-have list are Patina, Satin Taupe and Brule but there are SO MANY wonderful colours it’s hard to choose!

3. Lékué products

I recently discovered this fab brand of kitchen and home products called Lékué from Spain and I’ve been having a lot of fun with them. They are all really practical products that put the fun into functionality. Designed from platinum silicone, a substance that is safe for food use because of its unique properties that leaves no residues, doesn’t alter the flavour and ensures food is cooked evenly, these products are perfect for use in the kitchen. The  silicone is an odourless, colourless polymer composed mainly of silicon, which is found naturally in sand, quartz and rocks. It is flexible, resistant and withstands high temperatures. The products I’ve been enjoying are the BPA Free lemon and lime spritzers & the decorating kit which makes every day tasks so much fun! My kids have been loving spritzing their food with the Citrus Spray and it’s a much healthier way to flavour food than with artificial sauces!

The Decopen kit is great for adding decorative detail to our baking, writing words on cakes and even spreading liquid butter onto pastry with it’s handy brush attachment but it can also be used to pretty up savoury meals too – allowing you to embrace the “Masterchef” in you so to speak!!

4. Epimax

As a family with 1 x dry skin sufferer and 2 x eczema sufferers this is a product we are never without. Epi-max® is our most trusted moisturiser for both our kids – they each have their own tub on their bedside table and I’m trying to train them to apply their own moisturiser when their skin is feeling itchy – we use the product daily, if not twice daily! Recently I noticed a competition to win a hamper and I was quick to enter as we spend a fortune on this product monthly!! What was awesome was that in the prize hamper that I won I was introduced to a new product in their range…

The Epi-bathe® Moisturising Bath & Shower Oil 250ml (R35.00) To try to eliminate the eczema (sometimes exacerbated by hot water) I have taken to showering the kids so when they do get a chance to bath it’s an “epic” event for them! Shame poor kids… Now I add the Epi-bathe® bath oil I’ve definitely noticed that their skin feels far less dry and much smoother – even they have commented on their “soft” skin!  The product contains natural mineral oils including Evening Primrose oil, Vitamin E and pure Lavender oil and it’s been a great find and taken a bit of the stress that is eczema off my mind – now all I need to do is to remind them to be careful getting in and out of the bath as it can be quite slippery! Available at Dis-Chem, Clicks & Pharmacies

5. Gemery

I’m a washi tape addict – it’s safe to say my collection of washi tape is a problem. I’m running out of jars to store it in so when I can across this fab little washi tape holder (R30) I knew I had to have it! This cute wire contraption from Gemery is easily fixed to the wall or desk where you craft making it super convenient to see your washi collection and use it with ease!  Every washi lover needs one just to be able to appreciate the prettiness that is a line up of tapes all waiting to be used!

Gemery also has lots of equally useful and pretty things too like washi tape itself, bakers twine and home decor. Another item which I’ve really been finding so helpful is the sock storage drawer, well, you can use it for many things too but we’ve always had a problem with where to put the socks in our cupboard without them getting lost behind piles of clothes and falling out onto the floor every time you open the door so this little space saving gadget has come in really handy! Kathryn Rossiter

Kathryn is a South African lifestyle blogger and mom of 2 who has been blogging daily for almost 7 years! She writes about travel, health, beauty, fashion, decor and family… but not food (unless it’s food she’s eaten made by someone else) as she is a hopeless cook. She only wakes up early for 2 things… a red-eye flight to somewhere exotic and early morning game drives. She has just finished an extensive home renovation and would prefer to never see another box again. She’s never met a chocolate or glass of bubbles that she didn’t like!
