My 5 Favourite Finds for June 2016

I’m not terribly consistent with these posts am I? The idea is that they are published on the last day of the month but I never get it quite right. SORRY… at least they do always finally make an appearance, even 3 weeks late!

My 5 Favourite Finds for June

1. Poo-Pourri

A few years ago I watched one of the funniest YouTube adverts/ videos ever… no, not a cat falling off a TV, an ad for a refreshing toilet spray product promising the world…. an end to bad toilet odours!

My first thought was “How much did they pay that girl” and my second was “I wish we could get that product in South Africa!”

Well, the very good news is that we now can!!

Yes, Poo-Pourri is now here… available at selected Clicks stores and pharmacies as well as online at Takealot.

And we have been giving the product a try. Let’s just say that it’s been well received… (we’ve been living in a very small space with just one bathroom!)

Poo-Pourri is a 100% blend of natural, earth-friendly ingredients. A revolutionary toilet spray that you spritz INTO the bowl BEFORE you go rather than into the air afterwards! Basically it stops any odours at the source. No synthetics, alcohol, aerosol, parabens, formaldehyde – this product is safe to breathe and flush!

There are 3 scent options: Original Citrus, Lavender Vanilla and Vanilla Mint and each bottle retails for R139 and delivers over 70 sprays!

If you’re one of the very few people on the planet who did not see the Poo-Pourri advert when it came out a few years back here it is…. (37 million views!!)

2. Team Dr Joseph skincare range

I’m very excited about the arrival on SA shores of this gorgeous organic skincare range. Team Dr Joseph is an Italian brand founded by Dr Joseph Franz who is assisted in this family run business by his two sons, Viktor and Fabian. The majority of the all-natural ingredients in this Hightech natural range of cosmectics are in fact grown in his own garden in the Italian Alps!

The philosophy of the brand is that they combine two worlds – that of ancient folk medicine and the latest scientific findings. Their aim for this skincare range is to connect the natural balance of the skin with harmonious and synergistic products and nothing is more important to them than capturing nature’s diversity. Ingredients are selected based on purity, quality and sustainable biological cultivation, preferably grown in the wild.

Team Dr Joseph has 7 ranges of skin care products (all in the most beautiful packaging) to ensure there is something for each skin type.

  • Essentials for all skin types
  • Calming for sensitive skin
  • Moisturizing for dry skin
  • Purifying for oily/ combinations skin
  • Energizing for blemished skin
  • Well Aging for mature skin
  • Eye & Lip Care

I’ve been using the Daily Cleansing Milk (R380) from the Essentials range which has a lovely light creamy texture and the Daily Energizing Cream (R1045) as a day time moisturizer which contains active ingredients for a youthful fresh glow.

I have yet to try any of the Serums from the brand but these look like they may deliver delightful results and I’d be really keen to try them…

Not to mention the facials and spa treatments which will be coming soon! This all-natural brand is the ideal spa range and I’m looking forward to enjoying a treatment and reporting back…

3. Urban Decay Palette

So make up mavens across the land have probably already heard the news… Urban Decay has finally hit SA shores!!

This is a beauty brand like no other… An icon among beauty bloggers around the globe, local lovers of UD have, until now, had to get their fix via trips over the seas… or via willing friends who have happily hit the shelves of Sephora in search of a NAKED eyeshadow palette or their best selling eyeshadow primer.

I was super lucky to receive a gorgeous NAKED Basics 2 palette with six TAUPE-hued matte neutral shades of eyeshadow and it’s instantly become my “go-to” eyeshadow for every day. These 6 shadows are beautifully neutral matte shades that will suit anyone…. Now all I need to do is add another palette to my collection to enjoy some of their beautiful shimmers. I have it on good authority (My beauty blogging buddy, Leigh from Lipgloss is my Life) that the shimmers, satins and sparkles are where it’s at when it comes to Urban Decay eyeshadows! That being said I’m enjoying my first taste of the brand and can’t wait to sample more. But don’t just take my word for it…. Read Leigh’s post about the recent launch of the Urban Decay stand alone store in Sandton… it’s a good laugh too! (link above)

P.S. And if you’re not in Joburg but still want to get your hands on an Urban Decay palette then head over to their current Urban Decay online pop-up shop. All of the 6 Urban Decay NAKED palettes sold here are 100% original; no fakes, no customs charges, no disappointment!

Did you know: One Urban Decay NAKED palette is sold every 6 seconds!

The Basic palettes with 6 shades sell for R480 and the Full NAKED palettes with 12 shades for R850. But hurry, stocks are limited and selling fast!

4. Ford Ranger

This was definitely my husband’s favourite find for the month…

The Ford Ranger Wildtrak was delivered for me to drive for a week just before we left for a weekend away and he was thrilled! What a great driving experience. Once he finally let me have a turn I also discovered it’s delights. I loved it!

I’m no car journalist but this was a treat. I loved the comfort and power of this vehicle. What did I enjoy most about this car? Well, the fact that it was an automatic (something I don’t usually drive), the luxurious leather interior and all the extras like heated seats, parking sensors (front and rear with camera) and the powered driver’s seat. Plus it has 6 airbags. I won’t lie, when it first arrived I was rather nervous, I’ve never driven something as large, but by the end of the week I was reluctant to give it back!! When we’ve in the market for a 4×4 double cab (maybe in 2020!) we’ll be seriously consider this one!!

Here’s a little video of us having some fun in the mud…

5. Garnier Ultimate Blends Honey Treasures Shampoo, Conditioner and Hair Mask

Delicious smelling, ultra nourished hair is the desire of every girl and the new Ultimate Blends range of hair products from Garnier does just that.

Created using lightweight oils and natural extracts, Garnier Ultimate Blends is a nature-inspired hair care line that includes shampoo, conditioner, masks and more.

There’s one for every hair need namely…

Cranberry & Argan – The Colour Illuminator for colour treated hair

Honey Treasures – The Strength Restorer for fragile hair

Coconut Oil & Cocoa Butter – The Sleek Restorer for dry, frizzy hair

Avocado & Shea Butter – The Nourishing Repairer for very dry hair

5 Essentials – The Fresh Revitaliser for ‘normal’ hair

All the lines have a shampoo, conditioner and hair mask (save for 5 Essentials which does not include a hair mask) The honey line also has a silicone serum and the coconut range has a dry hair oil.

My favourite is the Honey Treasures collection and I’ve also been quite happy with the Sleek Perfector oil with pure coconut oil for dry, frizzy hair.

The shampoo lathers a lot and cleans gently, the conditioner leaves hair feeling sleek to the touch. A big 400ml bottle costs R69,95 and the smaller 250ml bottle just R39,95!

There you have it… My 5 favourite finds for the month. What do you think? Have you discovered anything worth sharing this month? Let me know in the comments below…

Kathryn Rossiter

Kathryn is a South African lifestyle blogger and mom of 2 who has been blogging daily for over 9 years! She writes about travel, health, beauty, fashion, decor and family... but not food (unless it's food she's eaten made by someone else) as she is a hopeless cook. She only wakes up early for 2 things... a red-eye flight to somewhere exotic and early morning game drives. She has just finished an extensive home renovation and would prefer to never see another box again. She's never met a chocolate or glass of bubbles that she didn't like!

  1. Wow!! Lucky you receiving that box of hair goodies… I am in love with that new range from Garnier!! Currently using the honey shampoo and coconut conditioner – the smells are AMAZING. I’ve heard so much about the NAKED makeup range lately, now I’m really curious to see what the fuss is all about! 🙂
