My 5 Favourite Finds for January 2015

It was only a few days ago that I shared my favourite finds for January (due to my holiday laziness) and now it’s February and that means that I missed my self-imposed “My 5 Favourites” deadline of the last day of the month. Oops.

Anyway let’s get cracking with the 5 things I found to be my favourites this month…

1. La vie est Belle from Lancome

“La vie est belle” means ”Life is beautiful” and this fresh fragrance from Lancôme certainly makes life more beautiful! The French luxury perfume and cosmetics house has just released the third fragrance in their La vie est belle series, La vie est belle L’Absolu de Parfum

La vie est belle L’Absolu is more intense and luxurious than the previous editions, namely La vie est belle and La vie est belle L’Eau de Toilette. The fragrance is also more powerful, and sensual while still staying true to the original fragrance. The sweet signature scents of sweet iris, praline, pear, blackcurrant and tonka bean are maintained with the opening notes being those of black currant and pear. The heart being the sweet iris, orange blossom, jasmine absolute and Damascus rose and the base the tonka bean, praline and cashmere!

Decadently sweet, without being too overpowering, this pink elixer is sure to make your life more beautiful! The perfume lasts for at least 5-6 hours so a little goes a long way. Another big highlight is the beautiful bottle. Based on the 1949 design by Georges Delhomme this historic shape is renewed thanks to modern designer Catherine Krunas. Created to embody an internal “crystal smile” suspended in a heart of glass, the stunning bottle is adorned with a precious zamac cap (an acronym that symbolises the alloy metal of Zinc, Aluminum, Magnesium, and Copper) and metallic tulle ribbon to sparkle with majestic luxury. (R1050 for 40ml)

2. Smooze natural ice-cream

Although I only got to try one of these delicious little treats from the press drop (the other devoured by my family within minutes of their arrival!) I really loved this…. and wish I had more! The new natural Smooze ice-cream is the perfect little frozen treat for long, hot summer afternoons!

Made from freshly pressed coconut milk and fruit juice in little squeeze packs, these are great for freezing at home. They are free from colourants, preservatives, flavourants and dairy and come in a variety of fun flavours such as Mango Coconut, Pink Guava Coconut, Pineapple Cococut and Simple Coconut! And they are easy to use and make limited mess too! Sold individually or in boxes of 10 it’s well worth stocking your freezer with these naturally healthy treats! (From R9.99 ea to R79.99 for 10 from Wellness Warehouse)

3. Intensive Moisture Repair by Dermalogica

I’ve been using various Dermalogica products for a few months and enjoying them but recently I was sent the Intensive Moisture Repair moisturiser and I have REALLY been loving this one. My skin has been feeling rather dry and dehydrated over the last few months and as soon as I have applied this product my skin does a little happy dance. It soaks it up so quickly and feels super comfortable and moisturised the rest of the day. I started using this as just a night cream but have been loving the effects that I now use it as a day cream about every second or third day too – I tend to switch between a few different ones depending on what I feel my skin needs.

Intensive Moisture Balance is recommended for drier or prematurely-aging skin. It is an ultra-rich phytonutrient moisturiser designed to combat dry skin and contains Vitamin c to help the appearance of find lines and skin damage. Antioxidants help to sheild the skin from damage by environmental assaults. After using this product my skin is left feeling smoother and looking firmer! Another bonus is that it contains no artificial fragrance or colour! (R1100 for 100ml)

4. Red Pumps by Sam Star from Takealot

In December I was treated to a voucher to spend on Takealot’s new fashion online store and it didn’t take me long to choose what item I would be purchasing! I’ve been wanting a pair of red pumps for a while now and as soon as I saw this Red pair of Sam Star Leather Flats I clicked on BUY NOW! Sam Star is an exclusive collection of limited edition ladies leather footwear designs that are unique and high-fashion inspired by dynamic streets and international runway trends. I am a big fan of pumps and wear them almost everyday. I have black, tan and grey but none in any bright colours and red was first on my list! This flat styled ballet pump with a round toe and matching leather bow with metallic accent was perfect. And they are super comfortable too. What a winning find. I got them for R499 but lucky you – they are on sale now! (R425 on Takealot)

5. Solo – an uncommon devotional based on The Message Bible

January is usually a month full of promises and resolutions… but not many of them are easy to keep as we move from a few weeks of chilling and relaxing to the usual frenetic pace we live in! Besides exercise routines and new eating plans a common resolution is often to spend more time in pursuit of spiritual insight. As a Christian one of the main priorities of my life is God but if I’m honest with you I spend far too little time (a clear indicator of our priorities) with him! The majority of the time I spend in prayer is while ferrying kids to and from school and then (shamefully) it’s usually to send up a few of my requests instead of thanks or worship! Any Bible study I do happens very occasionally and usually quite rushed. Oh dear.

Anyway last year I came across an amazing new devotional book based on The Message version of the Bible called Solo. And over the past month I’ve been finding myself able to actually spend about 10 minutes a day enjoying reading, praying and thinking about the these things. It’s an innovative devotional that is designed to change how we interact with God’s Word and is laid out in a unique way that encourages contemplation. Read, Think, Pray, Live. It’s a helpful way to get more out of the Bible so that I don’t just read it but I engage with it too. In my fast-paced high-speed life it’s really helped me to spend a few minutes slowing down for a few minutes a day. If getting into the Bible is one of your resolutions I highly recommend this book. And it’s worth noting that unlike other devotionals it’s not dated so you can pick it up and start anytime! (R190 on Loot, R230 at CUM Books)
