My 5 Favourite Finds for August

It’s the last day of August (how did that happen??) and as usual that means I’m sharing my 5 Favourite Finds for the month today… And this month they all happen to be beauty products of one sort or another!

Let’s get started….

1. REN Flash Rinse 1 Minute Facial with Vitamin C

067 (800x533)

This product claims to be a 1 minute facial and at first I was doubtful – I mean how?? But after trying out this gel treatment a few times I can honestly say that it is amazing! The REN Flash Rinse 1 Minute Facial is quick and easy to apply. And the results are immediate!!

The product feels a bit like a primer and mild exfoliator in one. It is applied dry to the skin and then massaged in. You then wet your fingers and massage again, the water activates the Vitamin C and the ‘grainy bits’ disintegrate. It is left on the skin for 1 minute before rinsing off with water or removing with a cloth.

After using this product my skin instantly feels gorgeous – super soft and plump. It feels quite revitalised and invigorated – you can feel that some active products are at work and see a little bit of redness on the skin, but not in an angry, irritated way, more an active, somethings happening way. A bonus is that it also reduces the appearance of lines, imperfections and photo-ageing.

The product contains the following ingredients:

  • Vitamin C – To stimulate collagen synthesis, aid skin elasticity and firmness, reduce oxidative and repair UV damage, even out skin tone, to brighten, firm, tone and lift the skin as well as provide instant radiance.
  • Boswellic acid – To relax muscles and fight facial fatigue & to diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Magnesium – To energise and boost radiance.

The REN 1 Minute Mask is launching in selected Woolworths and Foschini stores over the next few months – 1 Sep 2014 and 1 Oct 2014 respectively. (R470)

2. L’oreal Paris Infallible Nail Polish in Fuschia for Life

063 (800x533)

So the new nail lacquer from L’Oreál Paris is awesome! The concept of this nail varnish is that it is the first nail polish from L’oreal to challenge a gel manicure. At first I wasn’t quite sure what it was based on the packaging…. they come with two little nail varnish bottles which you pull out and then screw off the lid to apply like a normal nail varnish following the 2 steps below

Step 1 – High intensity, super-fine pigments deliver an opaque colour that contains Flex-Resin. This is a L’Oreal patented new generation resin which is super flexible and adhesive. As it is applied, it creates an “indestructible supple mesh that moves with the nails to resist chipping”.

Step 2 – Smart magnifying agents crystallise the mesh, effectively curing the colour to a rock-solid surface. Crystal Polymers in the gel formula rise to the surface to intensify the colour and the shine whilst plumping nail volume. This top coat also has a tinge of colour, which compliments the partner nail polish shade and makes it shine and pop even more!

After trying out the Fuschia for Life on my toenails I’m hooked. The nail lacquers promise up to 12 days of beautiful, high shine nails. And so far my experience has been great. Tomorrow will be two weeks and they are still looking great – beautiful and glossy! Plus the price is fab! 8 shades are available exclusively at Dis-Chem. (R99.95)

3. Kiehls Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash and Alcohol Free Toner

023 (800x533)

This sunny duo landed on my desk about a few weeks back but it was only this month that I finally got around to using them…. something about finishing what I’m already using holds me back on trying the new stuff. I really should change that mindset if I’m going to be a beauty blogger of any value! Anyway, back to these products…

Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash (R395 for a 200ml)

I loved using this foaming face wash – it cleans and refreshes my skin while also removing makeup. I loved how it activated with water to become super foamy and left my skin feeling smooth and soft. Calendula flower extract has been added to nourish, soothe and hydrate the skin. The formula also contains Glycerin for its ability to pull moisture from the air to replenish and help keep the skin hydrated.

This is a great product for those of you who have oily / combination skin as it gently lifts away impurities, dirt, and oil without stripping skin making it safe for sensitive skins. Although it might be too drying for those of your with dry skin. There are no soap, parabens or sulfates in this formula, instead it contains an amino acid surfactant that  deeply cleanses the skin with a gentle, rich, lathering foam.

Herbal-Extract Toner (R415 for 250ml)

This Kiehls favourite was launched back in the 1960’s making it an iconic product. It contains Marigold petals, which are placed into every bottle by hand. This is an alcohol free toner that is perfect for balancing the skins PH level after cleansing. It removes any dirt your cleanser or face wash didn’t manage to and has anti viral and detoxification properties. This is great for gently cleansing and soothing normal to oily skins.

4. Smashbox Lip Lacquer

080 (800x533)

Smashbox has smashed on out the park with these lovely lip lacquers! The lacquer lasts and lasts too, and when the shine finally fades the colour is still there due to the staining pigments in the product! I’m loving how rich and long-lasting the colour payoff from these is, just incredible! The formula is also ultra moisturizing thanks to Vitamin E and the lacquers are not sticky at all so quite comfortable on the lips however with the darker shades I did find a bit of creep into my find lines around my mouth so I do advise wearing them with a lipliner.

These come in 20 complementary shades – 10 super strong colours and 10 natural neutrals that complement each other and this video explains the ways to use this product better than I ever could by telling you which colours would work best for you skin tone. Have a watch.

P.S I love Smashbox’s amazing videos especially the #Shapematters ones that show you how to apply makeup based on your eye or lip shape – watch those!!

Smashbox is available in September 2014 at selected Woolworths, Edgars, Red Square and Foschini stores (R250)

5. DKNY MYNY Perfume

So spring is around the corner and what better time to try out a new scent! I was lucky enough to be invited to the media launch of this exciting new fragrance a few weeks back and I love it so much that ever since then I’ve been wearing it everyday!!

DKNY (Donna Karan New York for the uninitiated) has launched this stunning new scent, MYNY, as an ode to her favourite city – yes, New York!

So, what does the Big Apple smell like? Well, for Donna Karan, it’s an exciting blend of vanilla, musk, raspberry, pink pepper, Egyptian jasmine and a bit of patchouli.

“It’s a scent that is bold, playful and sophisticated. An intoxicating urban blend of fruit, florals and spices.”

And who represents the quintessential New York label’s young, dynamic new fragrance best? None other than Rita Ora! The face of the MYNY campaign thanks to her originality, confidence and eclectic style.

“The fragrance celebrates New York City, which is unlike anywhere else in the world. I love the idea of being part of a campaign that captures the spirit of New York and the stories of women here, passionate about their dreams.” – Rita Ora on being the face of MYNY

Housed in a heart-shaped bottle with a skyline-inspired lid (love!), this is a bold, fun fragrance perfect for those urban, carefree girls with the spirit of New York pulsing through their veins: a city whose heart beats faster and louder than any other.
