My 5 Favourite Finds for April 2014

It’s the start of another month…. Can you believe how quickly April flew by? It must have something to do with all the public holidays! Before we’re halfway into May here is my round up of 5 favourite finds for April 2014…

1. The Beautiful Store Care and Repair PLUS

Care & Repair PLUS is a 100% natural cream that is suitable for all skin types. It can be used as a moisturiser for both day and night. This “crème” was created to assist people with super sensitive skin especially those recovering from skin cancer and it has remarkable properties that cause it to adapt to whatever the skin requires – be it to soothe, heal or moisturise.

Care & Repair PLUS is perfect for using on babies and children as it is all natural and can also be used to treat bites or sunburn. Men love it too – especially those who suffer from dry, sensitive, red skin or shaving burn. The healing properties of this cream also help to lessen the appearance of scars, pigmentation, acne and other blemishes.

2. Lovisa jewellery

I discovered this little accessories shop at my local mall recently and since then have been back numerous times… and for good reason, not only are the accessories fun and stylish – which is what I was looking for in order to ramp up my mostly classic wardrobe – but they are also very affordable. I’m fortunate enough to have the Sale store on my doorstep and on a recent visit was able to pick up about 6 pieces at R30 each! My other purchases have been between R50 and R80 each, although there are a few higher priced items. Such a win. I’ll definitely be back again soon!

3. TOY Artic Matte

I was sent a few shades from the TOY nail polish brand that has recently launched in SA. I loved the colours I received, but my favourite was definitely the Artic Matte… although not a colour, this unique nail polish allows you to turn your favourite shade into a matte nail polish with just one coat! As much as I love a good glossy, this nail polish effect was so much fun for a change (and got many compliments)!

Founded in 2012 by fashion and colour fanatic, Carolina Palaez, the TOY brand has taken the beauty and fashion world by storm. It is sold at stockist but also via a loyal network of #TOYStylistas who buy the products and sell on to their friends! See this infographic for more info on how you can too!

The company is passionate about the environment and sustainability and all TOY products are ecologically sound and free from commonly used toxic ingredients including formaldehyde, toluene, camphor and acetone. The bottles are made from recycled glass and the packaging from bleach free craft papers.

4. Garnier BB Cream Pure Active

My favourite budget BB Cream has launched an upgrade which I’m very pleased about! Garnier BB Cream Pure Active has all the same all-in-one properties as it’s predesesor (spf 15, hydrating, mattifying, covering redness and evening tone) but this time it also contains 2% salicylic acid, an anti-imperfection ingredient. My combination skin can be prone to shine, redness, blackheads and acne (yes, it’s not just teenagers!) so I’m very excited about this new formula. I love how its lightweight texture melts into my skin quickly leaving me looking naturally beautiful… Perfect looking skin is just one step away! The shades available are “Light” and “Medium” (R84.95 for 50ml)

5. Pure Beginnings Organic Baby range

Since I became a mom 7 and a half years ago I’ve realised just how overwhelming the process of choosing the right products to use for your kids can be. There are so many options on the shelves and they are all screaming for attention and tapping into the mother’s guilt that arrives the moment the pregnancy tests turns positive!

Along our journey we hit a speed bump called eczema and suddenly my focus on which products to use shifted. Naturally I decided to opt for natural and organic as often as possible but at that time those types of products were hard to come by. Fortunately there has been quite a change in the way many parents are choosing at products, which has meant that there are now some amazing brands offering your baby the very best care for their skin AND for the environment.

One such brand which we have been enjoying using since it’s arrival on the shelves is Pure Beginnings. From the Soothing Baby Wash with baobab to the natural fragrance-free Aqueous Cream their products are a wonderful way to soothe and calm your baby at bath time safe in the knowledge that your baby’s skin is being treated with the kindest ingredients!

Their Fun Time Kids Wash which contains organic rooibos leaf extract, organic orange peel and ylang ylang flower oil, properties that are known for their soothing, calming and healing properties.

Kathryn is a South African lifestyle blogger and mom of 2 who has been blogging daily for over 9 years! She writes about travel, health, beauty, fashion, decor and family... but not food (unless it's food she's eaten made by someone else) as she is a hopeless cook. She only wakes up early for 2 things... a red-eye flight to somewhere exotic and early morning game drives. She has just finished an extensive home renovation and would prefer to never see another box again. She's never met a chocolate or glass of bubbles that she didn't like!
