What I… Emmy from Rouge

Emmy is the lovely lady behind beauty blog, Rouge. On her blog you can find a multitude of beauty information – trends, product reviews, “how to’s” and her adventures in the world of beauty. Pop over and pay her a virtual visit – it really is a “beautiful” place to spend some time…

What I…

Know

I’ll ever know enough! I am naturally VERY inquisitive and curious (cat like, in fact) and as a result, I love to study. I’ve done a degree in finance and economics, before moving onto Communication Science. I then learnt Portuguese, and I’m currently studying Near and Middle Eastern ancient history and Arabic.

I know a thing or two about beauty products too – I got this from my mum. I can count on one hand the number of days she hasn’t worn make-up since I’ve been alive!

I also have an abnormal knowledge of astronomy and geography, thanks to my yachty dad, fondly known as John the Pirate.

Love

Oh, so much!
I adore my boyfriend and loony immediate and extended (blood-related and adopted) English, Irish, Portuguese and Croatian families. They are all, every single one of them, as mad as a box of frogs, but I wouldn’t want them any other way. They are flung all over the world, but we’re thick as thieves.
My little sister, Liz is the person I’m most protective over, and she’s the same with me. We act like each other’s attack dogs.

I have a small circle of the most incredible girlfriends too. We’re like sisters in that we can argue and disagree, but everything is fine after 10 minutes. They keep me sane.

I also love, love, love my animals to bits. They are like my children. If I’m ever arrested for anything, it will be for inflicting GBH on an animal abuser. I currently have 4 dogs, 3 cats and 2 adopted horses.

Cape Town holds the biggest ‘city’ love space in my heart. I was born here, and no matter where I move to, this will always be home. But I do also love to travel. I’m making my first trip to South America in September, and am super excited about it!

Good MCC and red wine is also a daily occurrence in my life. I do truly love a Bordeaux blend with a juicy steak. As far as champagne goes, I agree whole-heartedly with Madame Lilly Bollinger, who once said, “ I drink champagne when I’m happy and when I’m sad. Sometimes I drink it when I’m alone. When I have company I consider it obligatory. I trifle with it if I’m not hungry and drink it when I am. Otherwise I never touch it – unless I’m thirsty.”

Read

My textbooks, historical mystery novels on my Kindle, and my fave blogs.
My favourite thing to read though is English fashion magazines. I spend a fortune on them every month.

Want

Women to take more control of the international political arena. I think there is far too much testosterone being thrown around, and many wars could have been avoided if male egos weren’t involved.
On a more immediate level, I really want women’s rights to be addressed. It makes me sick to think that women in conflict are being raped as a weapon of war. Men who behave like that should be shot.

I’d also quite like people to just be polite, and to think before they speak. And if Cape Town drivers could just calm down, and learn how to use traffic circles, that would be amazing.

Wear

I have a thing for vintage dresses. I have a huge collection from Camden market. Otherwise, my staples are Mango and Country Road. I also never leave the house without a spritz of perfume.

Need

I need my family, animals and friends around me. I also need an hour of sea air every few days. Everything else is a want.
