Each week on Wednesdays I run a feature called “What I…” where I showcase the bloggers behind a variety of blogs around South Africa. These may be beauty, travel, food or lifestyle, this week I am interviewing a “Mommy Blogger”. Bronwyn aims her blog, Mother City Mom, at fashionable moms and trendy toddlers and as the name suggests blogs out of Cape Town and she loves to share her favourite things and new discoveries around town. Here she answers to my 6 standard questions….
I know that everything is always okay in the end. If it’s not okay, it’s not the end. I know that success, whether it is a successful marriage, blog, career or a child raised to be a good adult takes hard work and constant input. If you don’t put the effort in you won’t get the results you want. Other than that I don’t know much. I know how to knit Peppa Pig.
I love eating, tweeting, blogging, makeup and my family. I love Cape Town and I love living near the beach. I’m also an animal lover.
Everything and anything! I used to spend every minute reading actual books, everything from Jane Austen to Clive Cussler to Philippa Gregory. But since I started my blog I hardly ever manage to read a book. I spend my free time working on my blog, reading other people’s blog posts and catching up on social media now. I also have subscriptions to Elle, Marie Claire and Grazia so I read magazines too.
I guess I am supposed to want something like an end to poverty and world peace. Obviously I do, but if we are speaking about more achievable and less long-term, there is a never-ending list of things I want. Most of them are makeup and skincare products, including anything and everything from Tarte, Urban Decay, Stila, Paul and Joe, Clarins, QMS, Dr Hauschka… as I said, the list goes on. I want Chanel makeup to become cruelty free so that I can fulfil my dream of owning something Chanel (because I have to face the fact that those bags are not in my budget). In fact, what I really, really want is animal testing to be completely banned worldwide. I want cosmetics companies to take a stand and refuse to sell in China. I also want to save the rhino, and the environment in general.
In summer I mostly wear dresses and in winter I almost always end up wearing jeans. I like to keep up with the trends which suit me and my personality (i.e I don’t think I will be parading in golden baroque splendour or wearing camoflauge. Ever) but the key is comfort. This winter I love my knits, my boots and my trench coat. And I can’t wait to splash around in the Crocs rainfloe boots I recently won!
What I really need is time alone. I have never been a pack animal and prefer to do most things alone. I work alone from home. I prefer to read alone, shop alone, exercise alone (not that I do much of that). So it has been a huge adjustment for me having my child around me all the time. Sometimes, like all moms, all I can think about is having some “me time”. I also desperately need the freedom to pursue my interests and my dreams, which I feel I don’t really have at the moment. I also need pasta. And technology. And lots of caffeine.
Thanks for taking part Bronwyn – it’s great to “meet” other mommy bloggers across the Mother City and I hope we bump into each other in person soon!
