Learning the manual settings on my SLR camera – tick!
Ticking something off one’s “bucket list” doesn’t happen all too often (unless you have a VERY long list) so when I was able to do just that recently I was really excited! Since purchasing my SLR digital camera 5 and a half years ago I have been meaning to learn how to use all the manual settings… I think I’m not alone in this as so many people I know who own beautiful SLR camera’s keep them set to AUTO!! I did, for way too long, the main reason (excuse) being that I bought the camera just before the birth … Read More »
Adele in Vogue
Adele has been having a sterling start to 2012 – not only did she walk away from the Grammy awards on Sunday night with an armful of awards but she also is the March 2012 cover girl for Vogue magazine – not an easy feat when the likes of Anna Wintour are in charge (We’ve all seen the Devil Wears Prada!) There were many critics over the choice of Adele including Karl Lagerfeld who felt she would be “too fat”…. but she proves them all wrong in the best possible way – by looking sensational! Love this photo shoot…. Read … Read More »
What 100 looks like (in wrinkles!)
I found this series of photos a few days ago and have been back to look at them a few times over – I love them so! I couldn’t resist sharing these amazing photos with you. This freelance exhibition project is called “Jahrhundertmensch”, which means “year hundred people” in German, Karsten Thormaehlen is the photographer and he takes photographs of men and women over 100 years old. What I love about these portraits are the amazing detail showing every wrinkle present in the subjects’ faces. You can see their happiness so clearly – what a beautiful reminder that laughing and … Read More »

Weekend Wanderings – Cedarberg Mountains, Rocks and Bushmen Paintings
A few years back, on my first visit to the Cedarberg, I insisted that we try to find some of the original Bushman paintings which I learnt about in my Art History class in High School. After a VERRRRY long and slow journey along a never-ending dirt road (with a tired toddler, impatient husband and a low-slung GTi mind you) we eventually found the elusive paintings in the Stadsaal caves. And it was so worth it! What a find, and what a feeling to know that thousands of years before us a fellow family of explorers had made this their … Read More »
The Nanny Diaries – Vivian Maier, Street Photographer
In recent years street photography has exploded, blogs such as The Sartorialist, Garance Dore and Face Hunter have made this form of photography very popular and have become well known photographers in the process. Now it has come to light that one of the pioneer street photographers in America was actually a children’s nanny and housekeeper, living and working in Chicago during the 50s. Recently an unexpected discovery was made of over 100,000 pictures and negatives belonging to Vivian Maier. After spending years collecting dust in a locked storage locker, the work of this unlikely artist has finally been uncovered. … Read More »
Lace lovelies!
I found this beautiful white lace fashion shoot in Italy via another local blog recently so some of you may have seen it but I couldn’t resist sharing it with you as it is set in one of my favourite places on earth! The Italian coastal villages of the Cinque Terre. I spent a day exploring this stunning part of Italy in 2009 and can’t wait to return as I loved everything about it. The cobblestoned streets lined with quaint shops and overhung with washing lines, the village squares lined with benches of people enjoying various flavours of gelati, the … Read More »
Weekend Wanderings – Cape Columbine Nature Reserve (Tietiesbaai)
A few kilometers past Paternoster down a bumpy gravel road you can find Cape Colombine Nature Reserve or as it’s otherwise known – Tietiesbaai! We took a trip there a few years back and the highlight for my son was climbing to the top of this working lighthouse. images: Kathryn Rossiter

Sweet Sisters
Love this beautiful photo shoot of stunning teen siblings – Dakota, 17, and Elle, 13, Fanning – for W Magazine by Mario Sorrenti. During the interview, Elle talks about her relationship with Dakota and how she feels now that the star has gone off to college.’She is a nice older sister. But it’s not like we always get along,’ Elle shared about their typical sibling conflicts but says that she missing Dakota now that they no longer live together. ‘Now that she’s going to college, it’s different.
