This past week was my 10th wedding anniversary, to celebrate I decided to treat myself and my husband to a night away at Old Mac Daddy in Elgin – our first sans kids in a while (so a very big treat!). Late last Saturday afternoon we were in the city centre after visiting the National Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition at the SA National Musueum (one of my “must visit” exhibitions held each year at this time) We weren’t quiet ready to head home yet so I suggested a visit to the new kids play area at Green Point Park. A few years back, on my first visit to the Cedarberg, I insisted that we try to find some of the original Bushman paintings which I learnt about in my Art History class in High School. After a VERRRRY long and slow journey along a never-ending dirt road (with a tired toddler, impatient husband and a low-slung GTi mind you) we eventually found the elusive paintings in the Stadsaal caves. I recently went on my first school outing in about 15 years – to Rondevlei Nature Reserve. I hadn’t been there in almost as many years and was pleasantly surprised to discover that it is a wonderful, well-kept oasis which few people know exists within the city’s less well known southern suburbs. Now flower photography can start to get a little boring after a while…. but not these ones. Loving these beautiful “exploding” flowers by photographer Qi Wei. He is inspired by Todd McLellan’s Disassembly series. Qi Wei says “The incredibly ordered world of flowers lends itself to this technique wonderfully. My layout is slightly different in that I try to show (as far as possible) the relative positions of the petals, stamens and pistils with each other so that the radial symmetry is preserved and the flower is recognizable, but only just so.
