My thoughts on the Gwyneth Paltrow “bikini’s for girls” controversy
I was asked to contribute to an article on Marie Clairvoyant, the online presence of Marie Claire magazine in South Africa. They asked some Twitter moms to share their thoughts on the recent controversy surrounding Gwyneth Paltrow’s range of designer bikini’s for young girls. You can read the summarized version of my article as well as the thoughts of another mom on the site over here. As my original article was shortened due to space I thought I would publish it in full here for you to read and share your thoughts about the issue too! Here is the image … Read More »
Surprises from Style36
PremierShop – Style36 (previously 36 Boutiques) recently surprised me with a parcel delivered to my door to promote their Mother’s Day campaign running this week. In my surprise package were the following fashion items… A “Chanel” style black & white tweed jacket by G Couture. This style of jacket is an item I have been keen to get my hands on for some time but obviously due to the price associated with genuine Chanel pieces there was no way it was going to happen soon… I am really happy with this little faux Chanel jacket as it’s a super versatile … Read More »
Gembox review and competition
Do you remember walking into Baby City the first time? I do – I was about 6 months pregnant and thought it would be about the right time to start shopping for the essential new baby items. I walked in, saw the huge amount of products and choices available, had a hormonal moment and promptly walked out in tears feeling completely overwhelmed! Shopping for a baby when you’ve never HAD a baby is not an easy task – how do you know which products you need, let alone which is the best one for your precious bundle! That is why … Read More »

Interview with an Event Organizer
The latest interview in my Women at Work series is with Tracey Wessels – an Event Organizer who owns her own business. Here she shares some insights into her daily juggle as a business owner and mom of 2 young children…. When did you know this is what you wanted to do? About 13 years ago, I did the odd freelance job for my sister’s company in Cape Town as they were Jhb based & I loved it! I had a business of my own at the time running an Aupair & Babysitting Agency. I really enjoyed the excitement of … Read More »
Helpful Homework Tips
I can’t quite believe it that the first term of Grade 1 has been and gone and we’re on to the second already… I am happy to report that the transition to BIG school has been a successful one and after the first few wobbles of adjusting to a much bigger “pond” and new routine I am now feeling a lot more comfortable with the whole “big school thing”. My son has been fine from day 1, obviously… He has taken well to doing his homework and is still in the excited stage of learning to read (long may that … Read More »
“Time out” treats for Moms
I am a huge believer that for a family to function at it’s best, moms need to prioritize themselves occasionally! However, every woman who has experienced nine months of pregnancy and has given birth to a baby knows that time alone for fun afterwards is rare. Months of care for the unborn followed by weeks of unconditional love and attention for your new baby means that you as the mom start to fall to the bottom of the list very quickly. And it’s only set to continue as your calendar gets filled up with music concerts, sports days, school lifts … Read More »

Now if you are parents you’ll understand the significance of this prize… A night away for 2 SANS KIDS is pretty much heaven on earth! And if said night is at MannaBay then you’ve hit the jackpot – I should know, I spent a night there last year. One of 2 we’ve had away from the kids in almost 3 years! It was stunning and I’m so grateful to my special friends who spoilt us! Read about my experience here. Anyway, why should I be the only one to have such a treat?? Exactly! That is why I’m so THRILLED … Read More »
Baby Naming Traditions around the World
As you might know already I’m a HUGE fan of names. Selecting a baby name for my children was such a fun process and not one I found stressful at all (although I know this is not the case for everyone!!) While pregnant I spent far too much time on Baby Naming blogs. But fortunately for me I had certain criteria that narrowed down my selection and made it a bit easier…. that, AND I had been planning my kids names since the age of 8! Yes, I bought my first Baby Naming Book in my teens – a bit … Read More »
Mama Mio magic
Last week Wednesday I was treated to a beautiful breakfast at the exquisite Ellerman House boutique hotel in Bantry Bay. The event was to introduce a few South African bloggers to Sian Sutherland, one of the founders of cult beauty brand – Mama Mio. I had such a lovely morning meeting Sian and hearing more about the background of the brand and the ethos behind it. She was super inspiring and I couldn’t stop jotting down all the little gems she had to share about building a brand that women will love! The Mama Mio brand was started by a … Read More »
