Weekend Wanderings – St James Beach

As we enjoy the last few weeks of summer I have been trying to find ways to make the most of these beautiful days and the amazing, wind-free weather we are currently enjoying. One way has been to start most Saturday mornings down on St James beach located only 10 minutes drive from our house! This lovely little beach is perfect for kids as there is a tidal pool which gradually deepens and plenty of rock pools for exploring. We try to pack light and only take our bare essentials – towels, costumes, fishing net and buckets and spades plus …  Read More »

Today I can’t help but share with you this bright and beautiful houseboat home. What an amazing, unique space. This is a houseboat located in London on the Thames it features an array of inspiring spaces filled with a treasure trove of collectables. I am loving the gorgeous colours and pretty patterns. Really stunning for summer. Imagine living on a boat with small kids. The owner, Josie Curran, does – she and her husband share their space with 2 kids and a dog! But it looks like a fab place to grow up! The owner writes a great blog where …  Read More »

The Wonders of Wonderful Wooden Toys!

Posted on 18th October, by Kathryn in Cape Town, Design, Family Friendly Cape Town, Inspiration, Kids. 2 Comments

Besides the multitude of changes that occur when you have your first baby, one of the ones which creeps up on you quietly is how suddenly you rather choose to spend money on your kids than yourself! Well in my experience this is the case – my single friends can’t seem to understand my change in priorities (toys vs shoes)!! What one does find once you have kids is how many things there are to spend your money on all in the name of your children – the marketing companies really know how to tug on your heart (and purse) …  Read More »

Quirky, Cute and Colourful

I have a bit of a thing for all things French and I’m always a sucker for bookshelves so I just love this colourful apartment in Nimes, France – the town where Denim orginated!! This home belongs to artist couple Myriam and Dominique who decided to escape the busyness of Paris and moved to a large apartment in the city of Nîmes, France. The apartment with high ceilings and large windows is situated in a building that was constructed in 1835. The large space makes it possible to move freely, to entertain friends and for their two children to play. …  Read More »

Beautiful flower photography

Posted on 2nd September, by Kathryn in Art, Inspiration, Nature, Photography. 2 Comments

Now flower photography can start to get a little boring after a while…. but not these ones. Loving these beautiful “exploding” flowers by photographer Qi Wei. He is inspired by Todd McLellan’s Disassembly series. Qi Wei says “The incredibly ordered world of flowers lends itself to this technique wonderfully. My layout is slightly different in that I try to show (as far as possible) the relative positions of the petals, stamens and pistils with each other so that the radial symmetry is preserved and the flower is recognizable, but only just so. What is intriguing is how much surface area …  Read More »

Posted on 1st June, by Kathryn in Inspiration, Interiors. No Comments

Loving this colourful decor – it’s not your typical “French” style but rather unique and lots of fun. This is Fifi Mandirac‘s apartment in northern Paris. Especially love the “wall paper” on the staircase – great idea for a wall in a kids’ room! To read an interview with her about her life and decorating habits pop over to Decor8. Or visit her blog.
